I've wrote on here before about my partner with liver cirrhosis and my worries.
She got admitted into hospital in October and is still in hospital now, numerous issues pancreatitis and mainly because her INR went crazy with the warfarin . Good news no more warfarin as the clot in her portal vein has now gone and pancreas enzymes given to help. They also have helped with her being under weight with supplements and a nasal feed to boost her.
Yesterday she was told that they want to put her forward to Leeds for a potential transplant. I was not there with the doctor, but spoke to the nurse. Her liver function tests the nurse described as she's seen much worse, albumin , sodium, potassium levels were not bad and bilirubin low. She told me that is just bloods and can be more, i really need to speak with doctor for more information but my head is crazy at this moment.
I was told next week they will do some testing for Leeds as she is in Rotherham General to see for putting forward. Will the tests be done in Rotherham ? or will she end up in Leeds, shes been in Hospital 6 weeks so far. She normally goes to hospital in Derbyshire but becuase she got sick while at my property it looks like Rotherham have taken over, which is not a bad thing .
On her general health , he looks better with the weight gain , fluid gain near her lungs. No jaundice. She has been drained twice this year though on her tummy.
Thank you, i guess im really confused and wondering on the steps next week and what happends.

Hi, sorry your partner a going through all this, if she needs a transplant she will be referred to Leeds as there are only 8 hospitals in the UK that do liver transplants. I had mine at Addenbrookes. They are all brilliant and she will be in the best place. The assessment is just a lot of tests to make sure she is sick enough to need a transplant but fit enough to withstand the surgery, mine took 10 hours. Please don't panic. If you use Facebook please feel free to join our friendly and knowledgeable Facebook page called liver transplant support uk, thousands of people that have been in your situation. I also believe Leeds has their own support group.
Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. I managed to speak with the consultant yesterday on the ward. They’re referring her to Leeds , as they’ve been struggling with the ascities. She’s been on a nasal feed though and was told if she gets a high protein diet in , it may help with this. She’s extremely underweight or was I should say they’ve been doing a fantastic job over the past 6 weeks of helping her get to a healthy weight.
As a current post-transplant patient at Leeds, I can at least assure you of the best possible treatment. The pre-operative assessment will be undertaken at Leeds over the course of one day, involving various scans, blood tests and a static bicycle assessment. There will be interviews with several members of the team to explain the procedure, as well as discuss your partners suitability. When all is said and done, the service available is as good as anywhere, and I speak as a former medical professional with experience of the NHS as well as the health care service in Australia.
I did actually train in Leeds in the 1980’s, and recall the first transplant being undertaken by Professor Geoffrey Giles. He was a superb surgeon and a humane, kind and generous human being. The current team continue to build on that legacy, and we as the patients are the grateful recipients of 40 year’s experience.
I wish you and your partner good luck, and hope for the best possible outcome.
