US result - what does this mean?

I’ve recently managed to get a lot of my medical records uploaded to my health portal app thing which was missing a few things, namely my full ultra sound results from back in Jan which all I got back about that was “no change” and when I approached the subject with my hep doctor a few weeks back, he just shrugged and said nothing to really worry about.

But looking on my portal I see:

“The liver appears normal in size but with an overall increased

reflectivity and finely irregular contour.”

It did also state the portal vein and hepatic flow is normal, spleen was in the larger side of normal size and no lesions etc.

I’m not looking for medical advice by the way, just to understand what it means really. I’m due another scan in a few weeks time so I won’t lie I’m a bit taken aback about this terminology and what it could mean or not which I’ll bring up with whoever is carrying out my upcoming US.

In the meantime, any input would be appreciated as typing it into Google seems, like with everything else with liver disease, to bring up all kinds of something or nothing, just wondering if anyone else on here has had a similar reading?

Thanks

Can't help on the medical side unfortunately, but I would be interested to know how you retrieved the missing records on your NHS app. I'm missing a few hospital appointments and comments, along with blood tests taken at the hospital. Many thanks.

Hi there I requested it in my NHS app that goes direct to the GP who uploaded everything to that and then it showed in my Air Mid U.K. app thing. You really have to push for your results and especially full results with your doctors and GP sadly, otherwise all you get is generic letters or “nothing has changed” or “satisfactory”. Highly frustrating… from what I’ve tried to research the comments about my liver could mean cirrhosis, fatty liver, inflammation and a whole host of other things, you’d think the doctors would explain everything to you fully and this is what angers me about the state of play with the NHS right now. It may say “satisfactory” on my US scan results, but I want to know every detail and what things mean exactly as it’s my health here and they are not the ones who have to live with whatever is going on inside me and they certainly can’t do anything proactive other than advice and medication if it comes to that which I can, if only I had the full insider tract on what is going on that is. Like I said I have an upcoming scan so will ask the person doing that exactly what it means, although no doubt I’ll get a “you will have to ask a doctor”.

Regular ultrasounds are not checking if cirrhosis got worse, they are checking for cancer. The Dr compares the current one with the previous one looking for changes that might indicate a problem.

"NO CHANGE" is about as good as it gets!

The other comments “The liver appears normal in size but with an overall increased

reflectivity and finely irregular contour"

Confirm some liver damage and mine continue to say "in keeping with known cirrhosis"

Thanks for you reply that’s reassuring, they didn’t mention cirrhosis in any findings just in the report the US was for cirrhosis and HCC screening. Maybe that is the bit my hep doctor is referring to as scarred.
