Hi. When I went for my ultrasound scan my gallbladder, spleen, biliary tree, pancreas, aorta and both kidneys were scanned as well as my liver (thankfully those were normal). This was an NHS ultrasound scan.

Do you have access to your scan report?

No unfortunately and each time I see a consultant they say liver scan fine just few fatty deposits , would they have picked up on gallbladder problems you think?

The scan should have shown if anything was wrong in that area of the abdomen.

The ultrasound I had on my liver also showed a gallbladder polyp, splenic aneurysm and lesion, all totally unexpected.

Are you an NHS patient? If so you can get your GP to provide you with a copy of the scan report and any other medical records.

Also - was it definitely an ultrasound?

Says scan on my notes I did a night in hosp due to the ggt being so high so there discharge notes , I thought scan and ultrasound was same thing thanks I know I also had one that shocks the liver so they could have closer look again all clear

I Assume that "shocks the liver" means 10 gentle tapping feelings and only over the liver area, that's a fibroscan! It gives a KPA and CAP scoreThen there's a shearwave scan that only checks the stiffness of the liver, it gives a KPA score and might mention texture.

Then there's the ultrasound scan that usualy checks the liver, portal vein, spleen, kidneys, gall bladder, aorta and if they can see it the pancreas., as well as checking for ascities, this is the one they normaly do first, the others are specialised to the liver.

I think it could have been an ultrasound or a Fibroscan - both are liver scans. If it was me I’d get a hold of the actual scan results from your medical records to get the proper results. The discharge notes will only say so much.

My ultrasound scan took about 15-20 minutes, and was pretty much the same approach as a pregnancy scan. My Fibroscan took about 5 minutes, and was a device like a large flashlight held up against my torso and it clicked 20 times.

Of course it could have been something like an MRI scan but that’s less likely, as you’d remember going inside the big tube.
