Dry Eye

Hi I was diagnosed with PBC earlier this year. I have absolutely awful dry eye. I have had 2 cases of ingrowing eyelashes in the last few months. My optician thinks it’s scarring on the inside of my eyelids. I also have just been diagnosed with fibrosis (scarring on the lungs). Anyone else have similar problems? Could it all be caused by the PBC?

In light of you already having one auto immune condition has Sjogrens Syndrome been investigated at all? It commonly manifests with dry eyes and is another AI condition. nhs.uk/conditions/sjogrens-...

Thank you for your answer. I should add I have lost 3 stone in weight and no one seems to be investing it, just giving advice on trying to put it back on from a dietician.

Hi in reply to your query I have PBC. I was diagnosed in March this year. If you go on the PBC web site all your questions will be answered. You should be on daily medication and all your other symptoms and any other autoimmune conditions should be either being dealt with or in the process. I have 5 autoimmune disease s including Sjögren disease. Which is very dry eyes and mouth. No cure only eye drops and mouth products. I saw one of the top sjogren professors in Europe on Thursday and he was very apologetic because he had nothing to offer. Can not be on any of his trials because of PBC. I don’t know how clued up you are or want to be but the information is available . You should be getting closely monitored, bloods scans etc.

Hi,my hepatologist has referred me to a rheumatologist to investigate Sjorgens . My dentist recommended Xylimelts and some moisturising toothpaste. I’ll let you know what the rheumatologist says about treatment if it’s helpful.
