ALT and CRP

hi all, I’m new here. Would be great to get some advice while I wait anxiously. I have recently been getting severe upper right quadrant pain, that will come and go. Also gastro symptoms like ibs, change in bowels and general gas and pain and sometimes a burning sensation. I have drank more than I should the past couple of years, not every day but Fri sat and sun most weeks. Had bloods done and Dr said my ALT is 65 and CRP has come back at 66- he said gallstones can cause this but can’t rule out hepatitis- having repeat bloods next week. I’m really worried that something is seriously wrong, the severe pain has subsided but I still feel tender and have burning style pain- doubt the anxiety is helping! I’m not drinking and eating well… is 65 really high for ALT? All other bloods came back normal.

Thank you x

No an ALT of 65 isn't all that high - different labs do state different ranges but your is only a mild elevation.Generally, a normal serum ALT level is considered to be 5-38 IU/L for adult females and 10-50 IU/L for adult males, although exact reference ranges may vary between laboratories

This can be a 'blip' occurring if you've been exercising or even fighting another infection. Doctor should repeat test to see if there is any pattern of continuing elevation. Concern usually only occurs when you are seeing results 3 to 4 times the upper limit of normal. Some patients with conditions like AIH frequently see ALT into the 1000's.

Hepatitis just means liver inflammation (Hepa / Liver - itis / inflammation) so it's potentially a bit of inflammation dragging on from your previous heavy drinking.
