I made up the following post some years ago now which covers the many abbreviations and acronyms that crop up in relation to liver disease - hopefully will fill in some of the blanks for you. healthunlocked.com/britishl...

BLT has also got a page all about the various tests for liver disease at:- britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...

Which blood tests do you mean? The common ones are LFTs (Liver Function test). These comprise normally of albumin, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), bilirubin, aspartate amino transferase (AST), gamma glutamyl transpepidase (GGT), protein, alanine transaminase(AST). There are also Full Blood Counts (FBC) which measures your red and white cells as well as platelets. There is also an Alfa-fetoprotein (AFP) which is a marker for liver cancer. These are the main regular blood tests for liver patients.
