I hope this comment does not offend anyone but would it be possible to use the names of conditions or investigations-- without resorting to abbreviations.
There are so many different problems associated with Liver problems and i would really like to understand more about other people's situations rather than try and guess what abbreviations mean - any thoughts or comments ?

Totally agree with you, i've given up reading posts as most of the time I don't have the foggiest what all these abbreviations mean!!
Hahaha it took me ages to pick them up really though if you are unsure just ask as spelling half of the things is impossible and your just guessing sometimes. But people won't be offended if you ask, I still do it now xx

A very good point.
Ages ago we had a discussion about this problem. After that most people began to use the full name of the condition but sadly we all fall so easily back into bad habits.
Maybe the British Liver Trust could post a guide to not using acronyms or where they are used in a long post, for at least full name at the beginning. Like this Hepatic Encephalopathy ( H E ). Such a long condition to keep typing in full, but at least once in the post before typing the initial letters.

The various acronyms and abbreviations are very confusing. I kinda know the ones related to me but often find myself google searching anything else. All the blood test ones just fly over my head. PTS AGA OTT etc etc.
I wish someone would tell the doctors too. Some of the letters I've revived may as well be in Klingon.

Not suggesting you write the full name of your condition throughout the whole of the post - just once at the beginning, after that abbreviation is fine.
We were all new to the forum / condition at some time and we should remember that. How many times are we driving behind a slow learner driver thinking " I was a learner once" ( but secretly thinking - ok but not when I'm behind you ! )

Abbreviations or acronyms in medicine can stand for more than one word and therefore can be misinterpreted.
We would kindly ask that members do not use acronyms or where they are used in a long post, please use the full term at the start of the post so everyone is clear on the meaning.

To each his/ her ownMC1189 - personally, I don't want to be part of a course -- just was making the point that it can be confusing with so many different abbreviations that could be applicable to different aspects of Liver problems
I think we can all remember that moment when we were told that we had a problem with our Livers -- for me, it was a complete surprise as I didn't fit the ' stereotype ' that a lot of people associate with liver disease !
My Consultant advised me to lose weight and follow a low protein diet which I did and have continued to do
Forgive me - my intention was to comment on my view of abbreviations and not influence anyone else's opinion

Agree totally I'm very recently diagnosed with Ademona a tumor on my liver, I'm new to it all its difficult to find the names of conditions from abbreviations
Welcome to this site healdy-- there are always things to learn from other people's experiences and it is comforting to know that our own fears and anxieties are shared and supported by other members
I expect you are still " reeling" from your recent diagnosis -- i hope you have a good rapport with your GP and Consultant -- what have they advised as your next step,?
You will be amazed at how much inner resources we can draw from when we are facing our individual journeys through " Liverland " take each day as it comes and ' run' with it-- you are amongst friends 🎈
Hi Esmeralda, Thank you for kind welcome I am having another mri in 2weeks to get a clearer idea of what we are dealing with & whether my consultant/ surgeon needs to operate he told me it's prob benign & I have been discussed among the medical council as its rare & is linked with the combined pill and HRT both I have taken. I don't have a rapour with my consultant sadly I was only in his clinic for 5 mins yday he just told me what he thought it was & what another surgeon thought it was, asked me had a taken the combined pill & or HRT he came out with some long words I couldn't understand I txt the diagnosis into my phone to search Google later I'm off work today couldn't stop being sick. I'm also booked in for a second endoscopy the first one showed gastritis I've been taking omeprozole since. Helen x
