Hi everyone,
I had been a heavy drinker since my teens. It got to the stage where I was totally dependent on alcohol and was waking each morning with what appeared to be back pain.
So blood tests showed my liver to be totally out of whack plus they discovered I had high blood pressure and equally high cholesterol. You think that might have motivated me to stop the damage but no that was over twenty years ago and I still carried on the only difference being my consumption levels went up.
2019 I’ve been drinking now over 40 years and I’m totally dependent. I wake and drink, go to work, sneak out drink more, lunch drink more followed by afternoon sneaks, I keep the vodka in my car. I was drinking 1.5 bottles of vodka a day, every day.
Xmas 2019 we spend with my wife’s sister. I was drinking heavy from Xmas eve to the 28th, I have vague recollections of going to movies and going in the wrong theatre only to sleep the entire film. Bottle of vodka safety hidden on my person.
I stopped drinking on the 28th December 2019, I never attended a clinic which was highly dangerous and I certainly wouldn’t recommend anyone doing similar. Long story short ( more than happy to elaborate if anyone needs help ) I quit the booze. Even after the gross abuse I subjected my body to I was committed to sobriety and here I am today nearly 4 years on. I’m 45lbs lighter, my liver had an ultrasound. The results came back as healthy and blood tests confirmed all levels were normal so no cholesterol issues and blood pressure off meds a respectable 110/70.
It’s never too late guys and you’re never too old. I quit at age 57 . I sleep great and feel like I e got a second chance. Fight the good fight, it can be done.
