Was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis nearly 2 years ago now . Doctors say my liver is now compensated . My question is I've been taking Ciprofloxacin for the last 2 years . Is this safe to take forever or should this be stopped . I read about long term side effects and looking fir answers really ? Thanks

Ciprofloxacin
Interesting. Will you share why you are taking it and the dose. This could help with the reply. Thanks
Hi I was originally taking it because I had bad acieties and was to stop the fluid getting infected . This is now gone for now I no longer even take any duretics . 500mg a day since Jan 2022 . Many thanks
It's unusual to be on a constant regime of a heavy duty antibiotic like cipro.Antibiotics are life savers if needed but can be deadly if misprescribed.
Ask your Dr why your still on cipro.
I was on it for 6 months for the same reason, but every doctor I saw during that period grimaced when he/she heard I was on it, and eventually my liver consultant stopped it.
Ciprofloxacin isnt intended for long-term use, its a antibiotic
I was on cephalexin a long time due to skin problems and I think it caused some liver damage
I'm on spironolactone and furosemide for build ov fluid, prescribed by gp (liver ain't working rite do to being alcoholic) r they same as what tablets you talking about?
No ciprofloxacin is a antibiotic which was originally subscribed to stop the fluid I had from getting effected . I to was taking the duretics you describe but I no longer need them but still on the antibiotic. If that makes any sense 🙄
Not really, I've got to see a specialist about TIPs, they feel it's best way. I just want to be able to b healthier with out the idea ov stent. I would try practically owt, it's been 7.5 months sober with not much effect n is getting me down. I don't mean for this post to cause any body sadness.
Hi, I was also prescribed this drug for alcoholic hepatitis whist in hospital in 2021. I only actually had fatty liver and it soon healed but I was left on it for two years. I started suffering with muscle and joint pain shortly after starting it which became chronic.i went to my GP on numerous occasions and obviously they or me had no idea this drug causes these awful side effects. I still suffer very badly with lots of the side effects associated with Ciprofloxacin and was also recently diagnosed with an ascending aortic aneurysm. Thankfully I myself stopped taking the drug after 13 months after reading the patient leaflet looking for reasons my liver enzymes were out of range. I also completed a yellow card. I am very upset that this drug has wrecked my body with no review by any doctor. Such is life.
