confusing liver results

Hi, I had some bloating last year and was referred for an Abdo Ultrasound. Everything was ok apart from my Liver ‘didn’t look normal’. I got a copy of my report which says ‘liver normal size and shape with normal smooth capsule - however texture has a diffusely heterogeneous macronodular echo texture throughout’ I was referred for a Fibroscan and the numbers came back totally normal at 3.3. Got a letter from specialist saying no further treatment and have since had blood tests and LFTs are normal. I suffer from Health Anxiety and this still worries me everyday! What does it mean?? No one seems to be interested in explaining it to me and I never actually saw a specialist it was a 5 min phone call!!

Dear Alfieanddaisy

If you [are in the UK and] would find it useful to talk things over, our nurse-led helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm on 0800 652 7330 (excluding bank holidays)

We have also included this link about health anxiety: nhs.uk/mental-health/condit...

(Please note: whilst the advice is suitable for all, the links to talking therapies are England-specific)

Best wishes

The tests have all come back good. They indicated that you don’t have liver problems. Fibro scan says it all nothing wrong. Sounds like you may need to work on anxiety and stop looking for something that isn’t there. Life is too short to be ill. Be positive get on with living each day as best you can. Chase the. Demons away. Don’t read all the bad stuff going round. I’m so pleased I don’t suffer with anxiety it’s so debilitating. I say I don’t have time for bad stuff. And believe you me I have a sack full of medical problems. I do have a terrible quick temper . But I can just apologise but temper works for me .

Hi, having tests can be worrying, I get that. I’ve had various ultrasounds over the years and two lead to further tests which had me scared, but both turned out fine. Your ultrasound flagged up a possible issue but your blood tests and fibroscan show that your liver is working fine. So there’s nothing to worry about. Easier said than done. Sometimes you just have to acknowledge a worry and then push it away.. Catch yourself worrying, acknowledge it, and deliberately think about something nice instead. Says she who should practice what she preaches!

Thank you so much! I’m massively relieved that the Fibroscan was normal along with the blood tests. I always have that worry though that because my liver doesn’t ‘look normal’ that something will happen at some point. But then my Husband says well something could go wrong with my liver at anytime but you can’t worry about these things! I suppose not knowing is sometimes easier! x

Your husband is a very wise man. All sorts of things might happen, but it doesn’t mean they will. Your results were good. Keep reminding yourself, soon you won’t be thinking about it at all.
