Ultrasonographer said fatty liver and nothing sinister

He then said he couldn't say more and I had to discuss with my GP to decide if further tests were necessary.

This arose because I have osteoporosis and my ALP was elevated at 198. They checked my GGT which was 54 and ALT 44. This was on 26th July. Checked again 9th August and ALP 196, ALT 40 and GGT 40. Everything else and very full bloods done is normal except for cholesterol- total cholesterol is 4.3 but LDLs high.

I had stopped drinking on 11th July, after a holiday and have not drunk since. I have probably drunk 28 to 35 units for the last 20 years with occasional breaks of one month or less drinking. No breaks since April/May 22. When levels were normal.

I am just in the obese category at about 30BMI today. I have lost 8.5lb since 11th July.

Feeling this is all too little too late and I there must be something very serious. Keep reading that often LFTs are not raised in the case of cirrhosis.

I feel absolutely well and definitely not alcohol dependent just enjoyed a drink and didn't heed the limits.

Hi, the British liver trust website has information and advice about fatty liver disease, they have diet and exercise advice, and no alcohol. Most GPs don't understand the seriousness of fatty liver.

Yor Dr needs to explain the tests but Osteo can result in high ALP. Nothing sinister = no tumors.

Fatty liver = half the population and needing to lose weight😒

As for the other tests any one of us would be happy with those results!

Yes the ALP has 3 components. Liver, bones and intestines. If you eat a fatty meal late the evening before a blood test that can be raised. The bone part for arthritis and such. The liver part is just that.

It can be broken down by these 3 individually if you’re really curious (at least here in the US). I did. Lol. I’m a curious one. 🤣

My arthritis was elevating my ALP. I had a severe sports injury in college. I read that specifically knee arthritis (which I have) is directly correlated to elevated ALP.

Thank you. That's really helpful and I suspect I have some osteo-arthritis. The osteoporosis Dr was very clear with me though that the source had to be the liver due to the raised GGT. However, I have never mentioned the achy finger joint, and cranky ankles arising from historical breaks. Interesting that the minor arthritis might outweigh the very mildly elevated GGT/ALT.

It can be some of each. Maybe slightly raised from liver but compounded by bone ALP.

I now have the ultrasound report which says the liver is moderately, diffusely echogenic in keeping with a degree of fatty infiltration with no discrete liver lesion identified. I would be much more comfortable if the word moderate were replaced with "mild".

Having checked, I am still waiting for AMA and ANA results which hopefully will be through today. I am worried about this as I was diagnosed with Graves Disease in 1991 and I have read that one auto-immune condition predisposes one to another.

I'm absolutely worried sick and have made an appointment to see a hepatologist. I have no faith whatsoever in anything that is likely to escape the mouth of my GP which is a worry and think I seriously need to change.

Well! The HEP E ab bloods came back after two weeks with a note to say that results were available only from the clinician. The HEP A, B and C came back as not detected. I may be putting two and two together and making five but shall know by lunch time I hope. I haven't felt remotely unwell except for a week when I was a bit off dinner but it didn't stop me eating it :(.

It won't alter the fact that I have exceeded the daily units for years, and have put on three stone through overeating and being sedentary. Fibroscan in two weeks. Still absolutely worried sick.

On 16th August ALT was 40, GGT 40, ALP 196 after no alcohol for 4 weeks. Cholesterol high at over 7 with not high enough HDLs to compensate. Everything else was within range.

Not what you're looking for?
