ALT and ALP are s slightly elevated too. My gastroenterologist says fatty liver.. My surgeon says no fatty liver issues cause I am not overweight .my surgeon said he doesn't know why Ggt is high. I have constant dull pain. I don't drink. Mri in April was normal. Yesterday I had CT scan... fibroscan is next...
What is going on with this elevation? Anyone has similar issues?
My response to your dilemma is merely a possibility. So please don’t go becoming concerned as it's merely a suggestion.
I see from your comments that you had an MRI and your Gallbladder removed back in April. Have you ever had an ultrasound carried out? These are often used to identify gallstones.
Gallstones are crafty little devils that like to travel. They can escape out of the gallbladder and then become lodged in the bile duct. When the gallbladder is removed, some of these stones can become missed and left behind.
If a stone becomes lodged in the bile duct, then the bile from the liver is unable to flow. This can become backed up and cause certain enzymes in the liver to rise. This bile can become infected if left. However, one of the problems with this condition is that the bile gets backed up, liver enzymes begin to rise and this causes higher ALT and ALP readings. So, a doctor decides to repeat these tests a few weeks later. During this time, the gallstone can become dislodged and bile can flow once more. Everything returns to normal, and the doctor just dismisses this as being a possible infection that has now cleared up by its self.
A few weeks later, the same stone can become stuck again and the whole process starts over.
This condition is known as Choledocholithiasis. I have been looking at various videos here online to try and explain this more clearly, some of these videos can be scary and rather hard to follow. Here is a nice little one that explains things clearly and is easy to understand. I hope this helps: youtu.be/Ccs7DAbzvpE
Like I’ve said, this is only a possibility and should be one of those conditions that should be ruled out as a possibility in order for the doctor/consultant to arrive at the correct diagnosis.
Hello Richard. My surgery was in March and before the surgery GGT was 47. I had two US before the surgery and one after. The surgeon sent to mri a month after the surgery and said no bile obstruction.. so why is it dull pain non stop and why is it raising?
hi...im Chris.not sure if this is helpful, but best of intentions. earlier this year my ggt was 700!!!. I haven't had a drink in over two years . even the great liver nurses here at the British liver Trust said that was extremely High. gp put it down to my pain killers for my sciatica....codeine etc.....non of which worked!! as things stand my latest ggt was 300......so compared to me u r doing well😃. take care chris
You know... it always good to hear. .. just kidding. I am also experiencing pain. May be there is something else... I am wishing you to get down to 35! By the way did you stop painkillers? How do you manage pain?
hi.....regarding pain killers. when I was last in hospital ,some nurse's gave me paracetamol . then the ward sister noticed .I did have paracetamol intravenously for one night, then said they could only do it twice, because of my esld. so the ward sister stopped paracetamol altogether .as for pain now,I take from my gp,nefopram. thats for my sciatica. otherwise low dose paracetamol cannot take nurofen.,because of stomach bleeding. hopefully that helps...best wishes chris
