Hi there

I think that it is all related but despite being a nurse. Has anyone had any issues with amonia levels and can they be reduced.

I know I should know but my head isn’t mine at the mo.

There are various treatments that are intended to reduce ammonia and thereby stop it from causing Hepatic Encephalopathy - lactulose to promote frequent bowel motions and also fix and remove ammonia from the bowel - often in combination with Rifaximin. If constipation is an issue then other laxatives and even enemas may be required.

Going forward - reduce/cut out red meat which can cause high ammonia levels.

Thanks Katie.

I agree with Katie.

I take rifaximin 2/daily 550 mg I use miralax daily, not lactulose. I also take zinc…

Cut sodium, red meat down. You know your body, Do not let yourself get constipated, find foods that will prevent build up of ammonia.

Good luck, Tracy
