I was just wondering if swimming is safe for the liver due to the pool chemicals, I have recently got back in the pool after 40 years and I am loving it, I know my liver needs exercise and swimming is one of the best forms, plus it’s a bonus to be doing an exercise that I actually enjoy as well, now I am pretty paranoid and have looked into safe nail varnish, totally chemical free hair dyes, I’m now researching chemical free make up as well, but I suddenly thought am I undoing all my careful make up choices and yet causing harm to myself in the pool with chlorine etc, I would love peoples honest opinions on this, as I really am not sure if it’s ok or not, I do shower after the pool but prob not enough to get rid of all the chlorine , I just worry in case I am causing more harm than good …..

Is swimming safe
Hi Sophia
You are without doubt over thinking this one, Swimming is a highly recommended form of exercise for people suffering with liver disease. As you say it is an enjoyable way to exercise large number of the body’s muscles whilst being supported and resisted by the water.
All my consultants and physios have stressed the need for regular exercise and all of them cite swimming as right up there on the list. So continue to kick back and enjoy the pool and your exercise. Obviously in tandem with the swimming you need a good diet and lots of proteins – but I am sure you know that all ready.
Happy swimming.
👍🙂
I understand your anxiety but I wouldn't overthink things. You have to ingest these chemicals to put pressure on the liver metabolism. Unless you're swallowing pool water I'm sure there is little risk. The benefits of the exercise will be massive.
