Hypertension and blood pressure

Hello

I have been struggling lately having what I call ‘funny turns’ they are totally random and happen at different times, some weeks none, other weeks 3 or 4 times.

My heart starts beating fast, chest pounding and go all hot and dizzy, thinking I am going to collapse if it doesn’t pass.

I have bought a blood pressure monitor to record it when it happens and I got a readings of 197/106 and Bpm 108

It passes after about 20 mins to half hour so it’s like a massive spike in blood pressure and my GP has no explanation.

I have a liver TIPS stent in for past 8 years, could it possibly be too much blood flowing through it? It’s like having a mini heart attack every week or so.

Confused with HE too so if I forget about it hopefully it will go away 👍

Jim

That used to happen to me before B12 loading doses and now injections for life.

Hi mate, liver disease is no fun thats for sure eh?

Your symptoms could be indicative of several conditions, such as panic attacks, heart arrhythmias, or hypertensive crises. These conditions are serious, I don’t think you should ignore them.

The blood pressure reading you mentioned (197/106) is very high and falls into the category of a hypertensive crisis. Usually, that would categorise a medical emergency that can lead to stroke or heart attack, if not treated promptly.

Also, you mentioned a history of a TIPS, so while it's not typically known to cause the symptoms you're describing, sometimes liver disease can have wide-ranging effects on the body as no doubt you know including the cardiovascular system.

I think it’s important that you speak to your consultant mate. If your GP has not provided an explanation, you need to see a specialist. Maybe your consultant may recommend seeing a cardiologist or a hepatology specialist. They may want to perform further tests, like an EKG, stress test or imaging studies.

I get dizzy often, every day, but yours sounds more intense bud, all the best.
