so I'm 35 years old I've been a heavy binge drinking since my teenager years. For the past 2 years I've been experiencing extreme itching, stomach issues, pain, pain after I eat, extreme bloating, gas. Lft have all came back normal but i am anemic, drs don't know why. Recently had an ultrasound that showed fatty liver but my gallbladder is thickened and distended with no sign of gallstones for further testing needed to find the cause. Waiting for a ct scan and have been referred to gastro. Does anyone have experience with this? Would an ultrasound show if something was more sinister with my liver? I'm currently freaking out. Thank you for reading.

Hello, Yes, liver disease such as Cirrhosis is picked up on Ultrasound. Count yourself as lucky, you've listened to the warning signs your body has been giving you, and have a chance to improve things. The body is incredible and deserves the respect we often don't think to give it !!! This forum will give you lots of advice on how to give your liver the best chance to improve, nhs website is good too. You can do this with diet and exercise and of course, abstinence from alcohol and drugs. We avoid any chemicals as puch as possible, and see it as giving the liver as little work to do as possible.

Take care and good luck on your journey from here.

Hi, try not to panic, dont google and wait for your drs to do their jobs. Easier said than done I know. And yes US is the best way to check out the surface of the liver and gall bladder. Ewife is right, there is plenty of support and advice here and liver trust and nhs sites are the best ones. The best thing to do for yourself whilst you wait is to give up the drink etc, exercise and eat healthy as this is what you're most likely to be told to do anyway, so good habits now will help you in the future. It can get better just need to give your body a chance to repair then dont damage it again. Good luck with any up coming appointments you have, its helpful to take someone with you if you're anxious otherwise it all gets a bit much .
