Billiary Stent

6 months on from my transplant and I’ve just had my second stent fitted, I walk at least 2.5 miles a day but I’d like to do a bit more moderate exercise to try and lose some belly fat. My wife is concerned that it could cause the new stent to migrate as well, is she right.

Thanks

Chris

Hi I think contacting your coordinators is the best way. I have had 3 fitted and 2 came out. But I have to say I have a Stoma so might not be the same. Definitely contact the coordinators good luck 🤞.

I wish I had answers for you, but unfortunately your question left me with some questions. My husband has Cirrhosis and may need a transplant. His high GGT and ALP numbers seem to point to the biliary area. Is it too personal for me to ask what your GGT and ALP numbers were at their highest?

I’m sorry I cant help you, I never paid much attention to figures pre transplant. As far as I know the bile duct problems only happened after the transplant due to the donor duct and my duct being different sizes. I feel great at the moment, l hope your husband does as well as I have.

Thank you for the reply. It’s encouraging to know you’re feeling well post transplant. So do they actually transplant the ducts? How long were on a wait list? We were planning to do a living donor. Thankfully I am a match for him.

As far as I know the donor liver comes with a bile bile duct attached (and the hepatic artery), these have to be grafted onto the recipient’s bile duct and artery. I was on the list about 2 1/2 years and luckily got the call about 2 am, the transplant was commenced about 14 hours later. I was never particularly unwell, despite cirrhosis but eventually I developed cancer which necessitated the transplant.
