Notifiable DVLA condition πŸ€”

Hi all,So, I was notifying the DVLA that I have just started on injectable Insulin, no problem with this, they just send a form for you to sign to say that you understand the implications and responsibilities of driving with Diabetes treated with Insulin etc.

I also had to tell them that my G. P. has requested I don't drive at the moment as I was having *episodes* of falling asleep without any notification, just exhausted from not sleeping properly, so GP referred to Neurology, just a precaution.

Bloody great timing (me), just got a brand new motability car- now I can't flippin drive it, lol. 😬

So... Somehow the conversation got around to me having Cirrhosis, I said that this dx isn't notifiable is it? I'm sure I didn't read it in the list of conditions on the DVLA website BUT...

Advisor said YES it definitely is!

I'm worried about having to release my licence to them and the hassle of getting it back πŸ˜•

Have to say the advisor was lovely and very reassuring.

For now though I am Lady Penelope and hubby is Parker, you have to laugh or at least try, otherwise we'd be forever mopping up the tears!

Take care for now x

If you have HE or are being treated for it then yes DVLA would have to be informed.

But cirrhosis alone is not something you have to declare.

Hi,Thanks for your reply,

Maybe I misunderstood the advisor, he is sending me the form to fill in regarding the Cirrhosis.

I am taking Carvedilol 12.5mg daily for varices and I am on 3 x 30ml Lactulose daily, I *presume* for prevention of HE although I have never been told I have had an episode, is everyone with Cirrhosis put on it regardless?

I keep forgetting to ask about this, my next appointment with the Specialist Liver Nurses is coming up, I will definitely ask then!

Is everyone told by Consultant /GP to inform the DVLA once you are prescribed lactulose, carvedilol etc or is it your responsibility to find out what you need to disclose?

Have a great weekend x

Hi, I was told that lactulose isn’t prescribed as a preventative measure for HE so it’ would be best to contact your liver specialist to discuss why you were put on it. Are you taking rifaximine as well?

Hi,Morning, nope I'm not on Rifaxamine, again this has never been mentioned, although I have read that it can /usually goes hand in hand with Lactulose.

The only time I can remember ever *not being with it* or anything like a *nightmare hallucination* would be when I was rushed to hospital with (I didn't know at the time) Decompensated Cirrhosis along with AKI, Ascites, SBP, Anemia etc I was taken off ALL my meds - imagine an A4 ruled piece of paper and every line filled with a different medication, that night was the worst nightmare ever, I felt like I was floating off the bed, the bed curtains menacingly wrapping themselves around me, I tried to call for a nurse but I couldn't get to the call button! This went on all night, I still get frightened just thinking about that night, I just put this *episode* down to coming off all those meds all at once, I don't think I told any of the medical staff about the experience.

There are lots of things that don't make sense to me, e. g. After having had an episode of SBP some guidelines say to put patient on low dose antibiotics, one consultant said "well, you don't have Ascites now so you don't need antibiotics!"

3 yrs on and still so many questions πŸ™„πŸ˜•

Have a great Sunday x
