DVLA medical

Well, the day has rumbled round. Today is my DVLA medical to assess my fitness to drive. My licence was revoked for being alcohol dependent. Medical questionnaire, blood tests, more questions, visual checks, limited physical checks. Some of you may no the drill! Could be a couple of months before I know.

When you live in a village with no public transport and one very small shop, a driving licence is a bit of a lifeline as you can imagine.

So here’s hoping!

Thank you, Laura. When you have a 16 year-old with a social life and football, quite apart from the fact that my GP is two miles away, it is quite important. I feel well but I don’t think that counts!

Good luck Debs

I too live in a small village with no shop or public transport so do feel for you!

Hope alls goes well!

Thank you, Trish. The nearest town is 7 miles away. Thank goodness there is a school bus! Husband is out of the house from six till six and works an hour away. He is off today because the powers that be can only fit me in to a surgery an hour away at 11pm! I have a list to keep him out from under my feet!

Now the wait. 21 days until the blood people finish their inquiries then 28 days for a decision. Being a spiritual soul, I saw some good signs today. I will survive whatever. Its what I do. But I am, also, and sometimes to my detriment here for anyone who needs a shoulder. Be it virtual or otherwise. You are wonderful people and l can open up to you just as I hope you can always open up to me. Always. 💞💞💞

Don't want to be negative, but the DVLA may decide to seek further information, even if you pass their tests. I have done them twice, as they sometimes only issue 12 month licences. I fully expect to be called in again later this year. The good news is the DVLA pay for further tests :)

Big brother eh. Surprised there's anyone on the road. Risk list.🤔

They can seek all they like. Nothing to find here.

Hi Deb

Oh I have such sympathy with you for sure. Took me 8 months to get my licence back after TP. I had not had a drink for four years before TP.

What a rigmarole that was. No shops here but a bus every two hours if it turns up 😀.

Interesting though I had no medical just 5 forms - sequential of course - with the insulting last one being about my alcohol intake. When did you last have a drink? 4 years ago. What did you have? Can’t remember! And more ridiculous questions along those lines 👎.

However that all said I do hope you have better luck than I did - I bet you do 🤞🤞.

Good luck

Miles

I gave up before I even knew what was wrong. Bloated tummy, just not myself generally. Then taken in to hospital to find out that I had wrecked my liver!

Hi Debs

Just checking your ok this morning ?

Morning, Trish,

Feeling great. Survived what could have been a nightmare journey (even the Satnav didn’t know where we were!) without a cross word between me and husband. Miles of new road layout and we didn’t know where we were either! Normally this would be cause for a full on domestic!!

Doctor basically ticked boxes, weighed and measured me, poked my liver and took bloods. Then it all goes in the post and I wait!

Patience is not my middle name but hey ho!

Have a good day. xx

Hi Debs

Just loved your reply re satnav etc ....

On the me front I still love driving bit do have to turn my music off when entering new area whilst following the satnav and especially when going around those 4 or 5 lane roundabouts... most people are so unsure which lane there suppose to be in 😱 I class these as scary moments even thou I think I'm a fairly good driver.its the others you have to be aware of, especially those with bad eyesight or those silly cut up drivers with now care for others ... oh poo must get off my soap box! 😂

My fingers are crossed that its all went well yesterday and your licience will be returned soon....

Take care and keep busy as time goes faster then 🤗

Love Trish xxx

I have never used Satnav! My husband relies on it though cos he travels with work. But yesterday was so refreshing. Like that falling in love again feeling. Just me and him and the A14!

My ex used to make me take his mobile if I went out at night. He trusted me but it was the ‘other buggars on the road’.

Morning Cobwebs,

I wish you the very best of luck, I have been in a battle with the DVLA since I applied for my licence back in June 2019. I had to have two medicals which both proved no alcohol whatsoever in my blood, eyesight ok with gig lamps, because a GP put HE on his report they sent me a questionnaire about epilepsy ……….What !!!!!

After my second medical I thought I would get a reply one way or another did I heck, so I rung their medical line not a lot of good all I was told was it's with the specialist medical team as it was a complicated case, I continued to ring every week on the same day ending the phone call with oh ok speak to you same time same day next week LOL.

I had an appointment with my consultant three weeks ago and asked him if there was any medical reason I couldn't have my licence back and he said none at all.

Thursday last week my licence arrived but only for a year due to my medical condition ? it was not stated what medical condition I have. I have an appointment at Leeds soon I am going to take my letter with me.

I really do understand how you feel it makes you feel isolated and depressed and I bet your local shop is expensive too. I have had to rely on relatives to take me to my appointments at Leeds but it's a 2hr round trip plus the time spent at the appointment itself.

I hope your medical went well yesterday and you don't encounter the same problems as I have done. Good luck and let me know how you get on.

Morning Joe!

This is my third medical. Long story. But when I ‘passed’ last time it was a one year licence. That was then revoked so here I am re-applying.....

My GP is optimistic and extremely supportive. It is frustrating. I have only been out of the village a dozen times in the last year due to no public transport. Most of my outings were for blood tests. Community transport service. Lovely people but, well, I don’t want to use them. I want to get in my little car and hit the road!!

Cobwebs profile image

As we drove in to the village yesterday, I was overwhelmed by the knowledge that I really love living here. I mean, I open the curtains in the morning and see the lake (ok, reservoir!) and pottered out with the wheelie bin to see an old friend walking her dog. Time for a little chat. I will take a walk to the little shop/Post Office later. The owners are personal friends. I feel safe here. Silly sentiments that go back a long way!!

I'm just wondering how they decided that you were alcohol dependent?

Ron

Cobwebs profile image
Cobwebs in reply to RonShirt

I have no idea. Yes, I used to drink too much but never when driving. Not a single point on my licence ever.

RonShirt profile image
RonShirt in reply to Cobwebs

Well, if you've not broken any law I can't see that they could revoke your license without some good evidence that you were a danger to anyone whilst behind the wheel!

Cobwebs profile image
Cobwebs in reply to RonShirt

I know. And it consumes me wondering why. I have never even had a parking ticket. I do (did) about 1000 miles in a year. It is crazy and all started by my vindictive daughter-in-law. She knows I know that it was her. 😡

RonShirt profile image
RonShirt in reply to Cobwebs

That's a shame. But I don't think any Government dept. should act on 'Guilty until proved innocent' - it should be the other way round, surely. .

Cobwebs profile image
Cobwebs in reply to RonShirt

I know. But I suffer from anxiety so not good with confrontation. I just take what is thrown at me and deal with it my way. Not easy. Horrible to think that my son has married that cow but he seems to love her. Nowt I can do, chuck.
