ELF Test

Hi

I have just had my results back from my elf test it reads 9.97, which really did alarm me initially, I spoke to 2 hepatologist consultants and both have quite conflicting opinions, the first one who I will go back to for a follow up appointment I think is the most accurate, I had a fibro scan in March 2023 CAP 272 KPA 12.8 IQR 12%, he says I have NAFLD because all my bloods are normal, I don't drink at all now but was only a occasional drinker when I did at social events, the other consultant has agreed that he believes its NAFLD but says I will need a liver biopsy to see the extent, I am no doctor but I have had the results from the fibro scan and elf test so know I have fibrosis so why is the need for such harsh procedure. I have lost 17lbs in weight in 4 months as requested by my first doctor, 10% he said, so I am continuing on that journey, I have stopped the worry and stress with exercise because that only makes things worse.

My question is he recommended therapeutic interventions, Does anybody know what have results with NAFLD? Are there any medications out there that may help the liver rejuvenate a little ? Also I have not had the follow up appointment with the consultant yet, can anyone shed some light on the elf test result and how it works, that was never explained because I had to pay privately to get it done?

Any advice much appreciated.

I had an ELF test that gave a test result of 9.8 indicating possible significant fibrosis but a follow up fibroscan had a kPa of 4.3 indicating no fibrosis though a CAP score of 270 indicating fatty liver. I was seen by a top consultant. He advised me to lose weight (10% of my body weight) and only drink occasionally. As drink wasn’t important to me I gave it up and now eat very healthily and after I year I’ve had a follow up fibroscan which showed my kPa had gone up marginally to 5.7 but my CAP had dropped to 261. Biopsy has not been mentioned and obviously not considered necessary.
