thank you so much I will check them out specially the groups as I am having to deal with this with only the help from my elderly parents who are not in the best of health themselves and my husband family don’t wanted to know,
My Husband was my carer as I had rheumatoid Arthritis since my early twenties and my kidneys are in stage 3 failure. I have a good friend who I met on this forum who’s been a good friend these last 12 months. But it really Frightening to find your soul mate unresponsive on the floor. I have never experienced someone having a blackouts and it’s scary.
Hi Dobielove, that must have been really scary. I think loss of consciousness would be a 999 call for me. I don’t have experience of liver transplant so can’t comment on what to expect but I know there have been other posts on here about it so if you play around with the search box on here I’m sure you’ll find some good answers.
Hi Readlots thank you so Much for taking the time to answer my question He wouldn’t let me ring 999 as our hospital as in a mess at the moment with patients in corridors as there are no beds with no privacy or dignity but when it happened again I that night I just rung them straight away 4 hours later they turned up, the paramedic said it was a sign that Liver disease as deteriorated and said it was pointless taking him into hospital to sit in a corridor for three days as there’s nothing they could do. I personally think it been building as he been suffering constant headaches which his specialist knows about as he had a Episode at his last appointment a couple of weeks ago, but he’s never blackout Sorry for the long reply 🫶❤️😘xxx
It’s so difficult to know what to do for the best. Hospitals aren’t places anyone wants to be atm, but I think you did the right thing calling the paramedics and letting them make the decision. Is there any way you can let the transplant team know about the latest developments in case it means he gets seen by them sooner? You don’t want to keep finding him unconscious. Are the community nursing team involved? The GP can usually get them to visit. Might just give you some support while you’re waiting and put aids in place to avoid falls etc. No need to apologise for the length of posts - you need to just get it all out.
Hi, I had my assessment at Addenbrookes, lots of blood tests, CT scan, x ray, ecg, lung function test, heart scan. Basically a full body mot, you have to be sick enough for a transplant but fit enough to withstand one of the toughest operation there is.If you use Facebook please feel free to join our friendly and knowledgeable Facebook group called liver transplant support uk, thousands of people that have been in your situation. Find out what it's like from a patients point of view not a doctors.
Thank you for taking the time to Answer my question that's what I thought just wondered if there was tests that could only be done at the specialist hospitals. He is definitely sick enough but he has super low blood pressure which courses dizziness and with the recent blackouts I worry they will not consider he fit enough for the operation.
Hope your Liver journey is going well have to receive your matched liver yet or you waiting for the call in ?
Hi, the test could be done at other hospitals but transplant teams like to oversee them also to meet the patient and get to know them. Only the transplant team can decide if he is fit enough. They can advise on medication for his blood pressure .I had my transplant 6 years ago, few blips but going well.
I have requested to join your Facebook page. He is only Midodrine for his postural hypotension he started in February after a hospital stay after a fall due to his water tablets causes Kidney Failure he lost 40kg of Ascites in two weeks. So was started on Midodrine at a low dose 2.5mg three times a daily and his current dose is 10mg three times daily. Just have to try and building him up for the next few weeks he as no appetite.
So glad your transplant is going well six years on it gives me some hope for my Husband as his Specialist give him a 3 year life expectancy with no transplant which was a shock!
