my mother has autoimmune liver disease and severe osteoporotic back pain. She has been prescribed codeine which she takes most days but the side effects are debilitating. What painkillers are sage and effective for her?

Hi Diane,
No one here can really advise on what pain killers would be appropriate as that would be very individual specific and none of us would be qualified to do so.
All I would say is, perhaps try and see a good chiropractor if she hasn't done so already. They may be able to help with some additional manipulative treatments or exercises she can do herself that can help reduce some of the symptoms. It's not all back cracking, lol. They are generally pretty good with anything back related, including arthritic conditions.
Hi Diane, sadly osteoporosis is known to be linked with PBC so it’s something liver doctors will be used to treating. My Mum had both but luckily no pain. She was told to take half a dose of paracetamol. It really is a question for her doctors though. I know my Mum had to avoid twisting movements so yoga was a no no for her. Not sure if that helps at all. I know some hospitals have pain clinics, it might be worth requesting a referral.
