My last post said my partner was doing well on antibiotics for thd previously undiagnosed sepsis after an infection from ascetic drain in jan, he had a slight relapse when he came home from hospital but another 7 days oral antibiotics done the trick! Just holding breath this works finished them Thursday.Gastro consultant wouldn't give us the 7 day course and referred him to a neurologist as the epidodes present as HE. I tried to tell him it was the infection!

But this is where I desperately need your help please,

His follow up letter said Fibroscan in Feb 23 51kPa @ 9% IGR - does anyone know what this means?

Child B (9) - is this bad?

Grade D oesophagitis, multiple portal gastropathy and 2 acute gastric ulcers - they've put him on lansoprozole 30mg once a day- is this as bad as it sounds??

Any advice, help, experiences really much appreciated 🙏

Sarah

Hi Sarah, I so know the overwhelming feeling of being given drugs and scores that you don’t understand or know what they mean. I believe that the Child B9 is not the worst it could be so focus on that. I urge you phone the the British Liver Trust Nurses helpline, I am sure they will be able to explain how the scoring works and give you some insight. My husband was only diagnosed last September and I have only recently found this place to voice my concerns, it was the nurse on the helpline that told me about this. Call them, have a pen and paper to hand so you can write down what you need, they are so supportive and can explain the jargon this journey brings to you.

I do know the lansoprazole is a protein pump inhibitor which reduces the amount of stomach acid, this in turn will help both the oesphagitis and ulcers.

Lovely take one day at a time try to look after yourself too which is easy said than done but is so important, sending a hug. X

I’d just add to Lavender- Pearl’s excellent reply to trust your instincts. It could be HE and a referral to a neurologist may be very valuable, but you don’t need me to tell you that you don’t mess about with sepsis and if you think he’s getting worse and needs antibiotics call 999 or get him to A&E. Hopefully that won’t be necessary and he will continue to improve under your tlc.
