Should a fibroscan be done after fasting for a few hours? When I had mine I wasn't told to not eat or drink before, but I've seen sites saying you shouldn't before the scan.
Maybe looking for false hope, but could my kpa have been shown higher due to eating,?
Thank you

Best practise would be you shouldn't eat or drink before a fibroscan as it can elevate kPa but that being said I guess all your kPa confirmed was your diagnosis of cirrhosis which is already evident from your symptoms including ascites etc. Once it's cirrhosis, it's cirrhosis regardless of where in the scale it sits.
My hubbies liver consultant has said that a fibroscan will add absolutely nothing to his diagnosis as we already know he has cirrhosis so has never run one.
I myself had a fibroscan around 12 months after being diagnosed with cirrhosis Kpa was 20.4. I was told in my letter not to eat or drink at least 2-3 hours before scan (take sips of water if possible). Like Kate says fibroscan adds nothing to your diagnosis, it just records the stiffness in your liver.
I've only ever had one Fibroscan, the hospital had only got the machine a few days before and I had been kept in after a bleed during an endoscopy, half way through eating my dinner one of the consultants came in and asked if they could borrow me to play with their new toy, nobody knew what they were doing and the readings came back in the hundreds, I was dead according to them.Hilary.
