Is anybody still alive after 8 years of having a liver TIPPS stent fitted more than 8 years ago. I would like to know how you are feeling these days and what I can expect in the near future

Thanks

BigJimmy45,

My husband had TIPPS last year as he has blood clot in portal vein (he also had it in Liverpool)

Until recently he's had no ascites but he has now they've stopped his spironolactone since he left critical care hed been admitted with suspected sepsis and dehydration 3 weeks ago.

The point is at the same time my husband had his TIPPS there was a gentleman next to him in critical care about to have his 2nd or 3rd TIPPS as he'd continued to drink (apparently according to my husband the consultant sounded angry. Although admittedly you cant blame them its hardly the cheapest simplest procedure to do). He'd had his TIPPS original procedure previously but wasn't abstinent from alcohol :/

so who knows could be 5 years could be longer just don't google anything as papers on TIPPS are depressing.

My husband is now on rifaximin aswell as Lactulose to help the HE just try not to stress over it as stress will not help you I know it's easier said than done. Maybe ring hospital back to ask for advice and explain your worries or ask your GP to contact the gastro department at the hospital to ask for you.

Thinking of you.
