Spring and a new T-shirt or two?

Good morning all. Thought I’d share this update with you all. It was actually in response to somebody else’s comment but I wanted to reach to the group. The group has been so supportive these last 3 months of quite frankly hell. Spring on the way and the decompensated liver is behaving. Recent bloods indicate that things should not get worse. Possibly even improve towards compensation. It’s a new life but a long road and having the help and support of our family has been so important. Especially our daughter who has been fantastic. Waiting for weight loss to stabilise (down some 4 stone so far) and endoscopy for varices investigation. Fingers crossed on that one.

It’s great to hear things are going the right way and well done on your weight loss, that’s fantastic. Fingers crossed that compensated is the next good news you tell us 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Thank you. Unfortunately the whole weight loss thing is a symptom due to the severity of the decompensated liver issue. That said as long as it stabilises soon it will be a benefit. Need about 3k calories a day to maintain weight in fighting this disease. Gradually increasing calorie and protein input but 3k is really hard to reach. Dietitian advice essential in this case. Some 25% was due to ascites but that appears to be under control with diuretics while decompensated. Compensation will hopefully eradicate that horrible symptom.

I can only imagine how hard it is to get the 3k calories when it’s all got to be healthy and no cakes. Keep fighting and you can only do your best ❤️

By the time liver disease gets to this degree you'd be surprised at the diet you get put on by liver specialist dieticians - it's like weight watchers in reverse - full fat milk, cream, yoghurt, loads of carbs (including cakes), protein etc. When my hubby was assessed by liver transplant dietician he was 8 1/2 stone (soaking wet) and he got put on this 'diet' plan that had him eating loads of what you think is bad stuff but not in this circumstance. He got to 11 stone at one point which transplant team were delighted with as it gave him some 'reserves' for post op recovery and to make up for hospital food (LOL).

wow. If it wasn’t for the awful circumstances it would be a dream. I love food, hence my type 2 diabetes and cirrhosis. I have a rule for myself- if it tastes good I probably shouldn’t be eating it 🙄

Yep, with Mum it was cream cakes with every meal, cream in your porridge, sounds like heaven but it can be hard work if you’ve not got much of an appetite.
