Bad indigestion was one of my hubbies major symptoms before he was even diagnosed with cirrhosis. In hubbies case he had varices and portal hypertensive gastropathy (changes to stomach lining). Hubby is treated with omeprazole to reduce stomach acid.
From your other posts I think you've said hubby is still drinking - this is also a huge risk factor for stomach ulcers etc.
Another symptom to add to the list for doctors attention.

Yes He is still drinking. Are you saying indegestion could be an indication of varices and portal hypertension?
That would make sense
Dawn
In my hubbies case yes indigestion was a precurser to his diagnosis of gastric problems due to portal hypertension and a precurser to his massive variceal bleed.
My hubby had a Ct scan about 12 months ago. They said he had gall bladder sludge and they couldn't see his bile duct. He has been taking prescribed omaprozole but it has got worse over the last month. He went light headed a couple of days ago and went clammy. He had to lie down until it passed
There isn't any sign of blood in his stools is there? Either fresh red blood or black, tarry sticky poo? Both can be a sign of internal, GI bleeding and would need emergency, hodpital attendance.
Morning,I haven't had chance to check his poo, but I will try to.
He does have quite a lot of gas too.
He has had 3 colonoscopies to remove polyps, so I put the gas down to that.
I has a bleed 2 weeks ago from a varices. It was really scary. Phoned NHS 24vwho told me to go straight to Acute A & E. My GP also phoned ahead. They had me sitting there for 5 hours before putting me into a temporary ward with dementia patients. I was up all night. The two agency night staff couldn't string a sentence. They were African Nurses. In the morning they tied 3 veins by endoscope. I went back on Thursday and they checked them they were OK. Honestly I feel awful, I did complain to their patient liason team. What time a hor rivble experience
Hello diamond, I know some are really difficult to kick the alcohol but I hope he realizes that by continuing to drink his liver will continue to be damaged. The most important thing he can do is quit drinking. I know it’s easier said than done. I quit immediately after I was told I damaged my liver. It’s crucial to stabilization. Indigestion is pretty common. So is feeling bloated and lots of gas.
I have pancreatic problems related to my cirrhosis. I was prescribed Creon which is a pancreatic enzyme to aid digestion of food. Make sure your GP and specialists are running the right tests. Obviously, discuss with GP first before taking anything.
I started having bad indigestion and reflux 6 weeks ago. I have been a heavy drinker for 40 years and used to smoke until aged 35.
Immediately my GP ordered tests for liver, pancreatic (and ovarian cancer), tests pending.
I stopped drinking the day GP said indigestion was a cause for concern. I have also adapted my diet as much as possible to reduce sugar, salt and fat and I’m veggie already.
40 mgs of OMEPRAZOLE prescribed daily.
Please note I’m not diagnosed as yet and also have another chronic autoimmune condition that could be the cause.
Massive well done to you for quitting the alcohol. Fingers crossed for you . You have done the best thing and hopefully will recover.
I have a good husband, two sons, two grandchildren and others in my family who need me. I lost my Dad and Step Dad on 29th December last year ( yes on the same day) and on 17th February my ex husband died of ARLD and HE. So I have two grieving widows in their mid 80s and two grieving sons who have lost their Grandpas and Dad in such a short space. 7 years ago one of brothers took his life while suffering from bipolar. To me, and each of us has their own views of course, this is a wake up call to stop drinking as my family doesn’t need another loss.
I say this without any hidden meaning or intent and I’m grateful I have been able to stop although 6 weeks is hardly a long time but when I get to 6 years it will be.
Wishing better times for you both.
6 weeks is amazing!! The first few weeks will be the hardest.Thank god you have the courage and strength to get this far. Your loved ones will be so relieved and proud of you.
My dad died young too at 55 alcohol and smoking.
My mum died last November at 81. She was relatively well but sepsis got her.it was very quick.
I only drink when I am out with friends, maybe once or twice a month.
I have kinda accepted my husband won't stop drinking now. Sometimes wish his suffering would end but I can't see my life without him. He is the sweetest loving man I know and I love him dearly.
So very 😔
X
thank you for your kind response. I hope something happens to help your husband face the cause of his drinking and seek help. I’m sending you strength to help him too. Don’t forget to take care of yourself.
Indigestion is very common. It was the first symptom I had. I’d take swift action to nip it before it gets worse.
I have stellar digestion now. I have cirrhosis. Stopped drinking.
Symptoms have disappeared and I am clinically normal. But my ultrasound says otherwise. It shows slightly heterogeneous and minimally increased echogenic. Nodular surface contour. So, it’s still there but appears to be improving.
See a specialist if possible. 🙃
Before my diagnosis of cirrhosis I had very bad indigestion. Apart from tiredness that was the only symptom I had until I got very sick with a deep rooted infection and my liver went into acute on chronic liver failure. Then lots of thing’s appeared and I spent 5 weeks in hospital. I don’t drink anymore and haven’t in the 2 years since my diagnosis. I have the odd bout of indigestion but that’s because I’ve eaten something that hasn’t agreed with me normally…cheese at bedtime being a good example! My indigestion was a daily occurrence now it’s once in a while. The alcohol was a major factor for me…once I stopped the indigestion went away. So whatever stage he’s at, stopping alcohol will be a major benefit, both to his indigestion and his liver.
