Hi everyone.A few days ago I went for a normal blood test and it picked up Elevated liver enzymes and the receptionist phoned to tell me an appoint with my Dr for 2 weeks time and I'm really freaking out because I used DR Google because I panicked and keep thinking the DR has got bad news to tell me I also went to the nurse 3 days after the blood test for a pre planned results from blood test and he said he had no concerns but I'm not 100% convinced I've lived on and off bad lifestyle over 20yr with alcohol and fatty food etc I'm only 30 and I'm really scared I've since stopped drinking alcohol alltoghter plus cleaned out the food cupboard and replaced with liver friendly food and proper meals and have only been drinking water in place of pop I feel fine in my self don't feel ill or sick am I right to be paranoid ?

Thanks all.

I was in the same boat as you, my GGT levels were 95 and ALT was 40. Dr called me 2 weeks after results and told me I had a fatty liver and it was nothing serious. Sent me for ultrasound and everything is normal. Don't panic all will be fine

Try not to panic. Liver enzymes can fluctuate for different reason's and the GP should repeat the test a couple more times over the next few months this is general routine. It doesnt necessarily mean something sinister is going on. If you havent been taking good care of yourself with regards to overdoing the alcohol consumption and eating lots of bad stuff and not much of the good nourishing foods then your body is probably craving some good nourishment. Our bodies are like a machine and you need to feed it with what it needs to keep working well.My advice is to stay away from Google as it only feeds fear because many of the answers are the worst case scenario.

Try and take comfort in the fact that your GP is doing what he should be doing.

If you can stay away from the alcohol and eat well then your next lot of blood tests could reflect this in a positive way and your liver enzymes could well improve.

It's not always doom and gloom.

Let us know how you get on and I wish you all the best.

Before I had any idea that I had liver disease I had a blood test at 11am, the doctor rang me at 7.30pm and called me in at 8am the next morning which was saturday and didn't even have actual appointments. I wouldn't be concerned that they want to see you in two weeks. Try to relax and keep up with the good work you're doing in the meantime.

...and just to add I dont think for 1 minute that your GP would leave it 2 weeks to tell you something really bad is going on.

It’s pretty routine for a GP to want to see you after a blood test result comes back elevated. They’ll want to talk through with you, check your general health and almost certainly want to repeat the blood test. If there’d been anything seriously adrift you’d have been called immediately. So try not to worry…they are simply routinely following things up.

"Probably" you will be advised to improve your lifestyle to prevent the early warning signs becoming a full on liver problem. They will repeat the tests in a few months and if you make changes they will most likely be normal.

Do not worry, apart from when I had gallbladder abscess my LFTs have always been normal. I have a liver issue though, LFTs are just part of the picture. Try phoning at 8.00am , memorise the keypad 'press 1 for appointments, 2 for...'Do it immediately the surgery answers and get an earlier appointment. 2 weeks is to long

You can have raised enzymes for all sorts of reasons, sometimes it’s because you’ve had a virus or been on medication. It’s really common for doctors to retest a month later and often the results have returned to normal. So paranoia not required, but a healthy lifestyle always a good idea.
