Bilirubin and Urobilinogen levels

I was diagnosed with a fatty liver just before Christmas - I have always been a heavy drinker so followed doctors orders and have abstained from alcohol since and also been on a keto diet - I have lost over 2 stones so far. I have tested my Bilirubin and Urobilinogen levels using urine strips and both are showing negative - does this definitely mean my liver has recovered? I know you can have false positive results with certain medications or a blocked bile duct but can you have a false negative result? The strips are in date and haven't gone off.

Fatty liver won't necessarily show up in urine dip stick tests or even blood tests so it's possible you still have fatty liver without it affecting your test results though it's a good sign. Your doctor would be best placed to run tests which would reveal whether the fat content of your liver has decreased - fibroscan for example can give a CAP score reflecting the amount of fatty change in the liver.

Your healthy lifestyle changes will no doubt have had a positive affect on your liver health. So, keep up the good work ........... don't undo it by reverting to old ways.
