nafld and insulin resistance

Hi,

Will be interested in opinions.

I have had nafld for 2 years. I had a recent scan and it’s still there. My Gp offered the only advice to eat healthy and no other monitoring. I had my gallbladder removed last year.

I have been suffering with insufficient vitamin d issues even though I take a supplement.

I am concerned I have insulin resistance and it will turn to type2 from these liver issues.

My recent hba1c test was 32 though. However I am having these symptoms:

- severe fatigue especially 2-4pm every day

- skin tags

- I have had some right upper quadrant pain through the last two years even a visit to an and e which they suspected nothing.

- hunger all the time

- difficulty concentrating

- constant infections

my liver enzyme readings have been off in the past but are ok now. I’ve had triglyceride issues in the past 600+ but then it seemed to rectify.

Any help. Someone did suggest to use a continuous glucose machine. I know these issues all sit hand in hand.

thanks

Hi, not too sure but might help you. With you describing hunger, fatigue and difficulty with concentration could you be having low blood sugar issues? Would you feel shaky or sweaty at these times too? I know from my own experiences of low blood sugar that I have these, I also have eye issues at these times. The best solution that I have found has been to eat one or two dates at intervals throughout the day, they seem to control my symptoms much better. Dates are high in sugar and the fibre found in them helps the body to absorb the sugars more slowly. They are also a low glycaemic index food giving rise to less fluctuations in blood sugar levels avoiding the serious highs followed by the sugar crashes. I hope this helps you.

yes that makes perfect sense.

I have purchased one libre sensor to track for two weeks. I tried with a finger prick machine but it’s hard to judge the timing.

Thank you

HiI have low vitamin D, was 30 now upto 60 but the GP would like it over a 100.

My diabetic score got to 47 now down to 40 so no longer pre diabetic

As I am retired I normally eat between 11.00 am and 17.30 pm and fast the rest of the time.

I am following a partial keto diet I have porridge and banana in the morning.

Not strictly keto but slow release of energy and potassium from bananas is good for me.

The rest of the food keto.

I am on TRT after my score was just below the cut off of 10nmols at 9.3.

Also on tadalafel which is a 247 viagra.

I think the increase in testoterone has probably helped my diabetic predisposition. I also think it is good for my liver condition.

This might seem irrelevant to your circumstance assuming you are female but worth asking if there is any effect on your hormones.

I am not a Doctor and I am only letting you know what I am doing. Obviously check if Keto is good for you but I find my energy levels much more stable.

The reading of 32 seems well within the limits (as I said mine is 40) is there something else going on?

Have you spoken to one of the BLT nurses they are very good and should point you in the right direction

I remember reading a post on here a while back when a Doctor told a patient with NAFLD he would bet the next u would be type2 diabetes.

I sort of gave hope after reading that but out of the blue my hbac1 fell from 47 to 40 so dont believe everything you read.

One question what do skin tags have to do with it?

I used to have loads around and under my armpit. When I stopped work and stopped wearing a formal shirt they disappeared. I assumed it was because of a lack of friction.

Hope my ramblings are of some use to you

Hi

Yes female. But thank you there’s some very interesting areas to think about.

My concern is that it will lead to type 2 if I don’t take the right kind of action.

I will look into it thank you
