Proxy information

Happy New year everyone. My husband's mobility is now extremely bad, taking diazepam for pain.

He is sleeping mostly and not eating.

I have spoken to our gp this morning about my concerns of him taking this as he continues to drink over 20 bottles of strong beer daily.

He has a physio appointment next Monday but I dont think I can physically get him there and that's our only way to investigate what is going on with his back pain.

I understand that mobility can deteriarate with korsakoff.

My gp has suggested we get a proxy in place.

Does anybody know how this works please and how I go forward with his physio?

In all honesty I don't think physio will help him now, but don't want to give up on him.

I also mentioned palliative care with my gp. They said start with the proxy.

Thank you

Dawn

Quite surprised he is allowed diazepam !? I was diagnosed with decompensated liver and I'm only allowed 1 paracetamol a day ( which obviously does not help at all so I don't bother ) but I was suffering with really bad pain every where turned out to be arthritis as well as all the other pains that come with bad liver but my specialist has allowed me up to 20ml of oramorph a day which although does not help much with the bone pain it does help with all the other pains and he stated that oramorph is the safest / softest on the liver obviously you have to be careful with it as also addictive but diazepam surly would make him more sleepy on top of what is a very draining ( fatigue) condition ( I have used diazepam in the passed for anxiety so I know how tired you get on it) anyway I hope he gets the help he needs but don't forget to take time for yourself too especially if he is still drinking I know its hard I watched my wife stand by me I'm nearly 2 years sober now but still decompensated so just make sure you take time for you x

Hi Paul

He was only given 9 diazepam . They have given him cocodomol now.

He has a physio appointment tomorrow booked. No idea how I will get him there.

If I cant I will ring in the morning and ask they come to our house, I believe they can do that.

I think it's a progression of his korsakoff because his balance and coordination is much worse now.

He used a wheeled frame round the house.
