Hi,
My 79 year old mum has been in hospital about 7 weeks and it's been a roller coaster to say the least. She has fibrosis of the liver but her fibro scan suggested it was F3 stage. She is 79 years old. Her consultant called me yesterday to say he believes she has alcohol related brain injury, I assume wet brain or Korsakoff syndrome but he didnt give it a name. The symptoms seem similar to dementia, she doesnt have great awareness of where she is and say words that dont fit with what she is saying. She cant look after herself and they are looking for a short term placement in a home before sending her home with nurses to come in a help her each day. I dont live near her so I am limited in what I practically give in terms of hands on help. Does anyone have experience of this type of brain injury, I'm trying to anticipate how long she might last with this. Silly question I know, but doctors never commit to saying anything and I'm not sure if I should be expecting her to recover. Thanks for any insight you might be able to give x
