Alcohol related cirrhosis and drinking

I was diagnosed with cirrhosis in September 2023 after a fibroscan. I am considered compensated due to my lab work and no ascites or symptoms. I am an alcoholic and made the stupid mistake of drinking a glass of red wine at a Christmas party last week. Of course now I am hating myself and absolutely terrified that my liver is going to get worse. I know no one can tell me it will be ok, just wanted to know if anyone has ever been in a similar situation. I need to go back to AA for sure. Thank you in advance. I had been sober for a year almost to date before I had the wine.

Just a quick message of support. To go a year without a drink is a fantastic thing considering the fact you call your self an alcoholic , you should be very proud of yourself. It's a great achievement and no doubt you can go another year. Forget this hiccup, that's all it is. Don't let one small indiscretion ruin your achievement. I'm sure you will be fine .

I am sure 1 drink wouldn't do you any harm, but I am not a doctor. I recently diagnosed with cirrhosis after many years drinking almost every day. I don't know much about AA as i never drank for a need more company and habit. If AA it gives you strength and support then use it. The journey is yours and you know what is required and a year without a drink was an achievement that you should take pride in. You have the support of your doctors and nurses and this forum. I wish you well.

Dust yourself down and get back with AA and in no time you should hopefully get strong again. I'm nearly 7 years sober and i've found AA instrumental in helping me to accept my powerlessness to alcohol. One year was a great achievement but all we ever have is 'one day' at a time. Best of luck !

Dont do it again, a drink is not worth your life. If it was just one drink, Im sure you will be fine but dont use that as an excuse to have a drink once in a while, thats how you relapse...and after that then youll really have serious problems. Your drinking days are over! Remember cirrhosis is not a death sentence but a reminder that you need to do better for yourself and for your family.

try and be kind to yourself, you managed to not drink for a year which is incredible and you have proven you can do it. You slipped up but what matters now is how you deal with the slip

Thank you everyone for all the kind words and encouragement. I am just so disappointed in myself because I worked so hard to get where I’m at. But everyone is right I will look forward and definitely not do it again. It was definitely another wake up call that I need to stay sober and take care of myself. I get my blood work and ultrasound next month so I will know if it affected my liver. Thank you again!

Fibroscans have proved useless to me. Too many factors can inflate the numbers. I had one at 22kpa. Biopsy proved otherwise. Not even fatty liver. Get a biopsy if concerned.

True, I have to get a liver US. My liver doctor said sometimes the levels can be higher than they are. Mine was 16.7 KPA. I was devastated the report was F4 cirrhosis. My labs were all normal so compensated at this time
