Clear Ultrasound, CT showed 2 liver lesions

Have had pain which started slowly under right rib cage only when I bent over. Eventually spread to back. Saw nurse who suspected gallstones. Long story short, ended up in A& E twice with pain. Ultrasound clear, not gallbladder. Sonographer said best liver she’d seen in a long time. CT scan was rushed, wearing shirt with metal buttons but they told me to keep it on against my better judgement. Scan showed 2 lesions on liver & on spine (both would have had my metal buttons nearby or on them). Would this affect the scan?

Got MRI in a week’s time, still in pain but it’s eased. Appetite a bit less but I am less active. A bit itchy at night. Bloods all fine.

Beside myself with worry.

СТ scan usually is the most accurate method and has advantages over ultrasound imaging. In addition, ultrasound is very operator dependent. Two different operators may describe the same ultrasound picture differently. Any ultrasound picture has a certain degree of light "noise" which depends on the class of the device. In your case, it's probably worth asking the doctor who described the CT to what extent everything you wrote about could make it difficult to describe the CT or ask for a "second opinion" from another specialist.

thanks for your reply. Apparently it was out sourced & the consultant said she didn’t really know what the report suggested other than cancer which was a little clumsy.

She was going to get it looked at in-House but hasn’t got back to me. I guess the MRI will be comprehensive.

usually both are good ways to see how the liver and gallbladder are doing. Ultrasound being the first to see then ct to confirm or take a further look It could be your buttons.

Thank you for your reply. I wouldn’t have set such great store by the ultrasound but she really went on about it. I think you might get arcing of metal. The Ct scanner said the buttons would be against my spine so it wouldn’t matter as that was not the subject of the scan (then they tell me I have spinal lesions). Think they were really looking at kidneys which were fine. Oh well I suppose I’ll wait for the MRI or a clarifying phone call.

Hi, thanks for asking. It turned out to be metastatic breast cancer 😕. It took a long time to get a diagnosis because I have no discernible cancer in my breasts & never have had breast cancer. This was a first occurrence. Thankful for my liver complaining. Incurable but treatable. Hoping to get a few more years.

I had a liver biopsy - which I was terrified about but was really easy. It confirmed MBC.
