correction to post: no lesions on US testicular or liver
I would say that usually when cancer is present the value is much higher. Also is not so specific. Can I ask why you had AFP test? It is not a standard LFT and I think it is not a good idea to do it without solid reasons (abnormal ultrasound, diagnosed cirrhosis). Good luck and do not worry. Wait for your specialist professional opinion about this result.
Thanks for the reply. Long story short, for over a year I have had what I think is some kind of liver disease. Symptoms: bloating after eating, pain in upper right quadrant area, feeling fluid moving in the abdomen after drinking fluids. I’m 42 and started drinking at a young age. I’m going for a year sober now, that bad I have felt. Lost about 30lbs, ideal weight now. Just changed drastically to a healthy lifestyle. I’m just really worried what could be causing all my discomfort. I really have no clue why she ordered that AFP lab work. She’s a hepatologist I’m going to assume that’s the norm here in the US.
Mine was about the same and Dr ordered an MRI to check. The MRI found nothing.
glad to hear your MRI was negative. NP just ordered me an MRI. Will get it done this week. Hoping for the best. He did mention chances are low of finding any cancerous masses since I don’t have cirrhosis. But he did also mention if negative he would consider referral with oncologist. That got me more worried now. Were you refered to oncologist? Did they find anything related to your elevated AFP?
