Hi I'm a newbie to the group I've been told by specialist that I have compensated cirrhosis by specialist. But also told after MRI no scarring..I've had loads ultrasounds cat scans. Bloods are good..I have malabsorption after gastric bypass. I need to know if the diagnosis is correct will fibroscan show this..its not available here on health social care . Ut costs 250 euros.

Mri said appearance of cirrhosis..ultrasounds show heterogeneous in echostructure slightly enlarged left lobe of liver. My Gp says no cirrhosis but ore cirrhosis. I'm so confused . Will a fibroscan

Put me out if my confusion which ever way it goes.

Thx

From what you've written it sounds like a cirrhosis diagnosis is already confirmed.

"Told compensated cirrhosis by specialist"

"MRI said appearance of cirrhosis"

"heterogenous echo texture on ultrasound" (so not smooth and homogenous as a healthy liver would be).

If your bloods are good then fibroscan (if you get a good operator) should be fairly accurate but whether it is worth the cost us up to you.

I surmise that having had gastric bypass surgery you've previously been overweight - a big risk for fatty liver disease. The fact doctor has said compensated is good and you should still be able to make big improvements to your liver. Check out the BLT page on publications to download. They have a great one on treating fatty liver disease. britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...

Thank you for taking the time to reply.I can see your point.

However consultant also said no scarring which if it was cirrhosis there would be.

My scans have improved a lot since mri and things have gone polilobulated liver gone completely.

When I kept asking her how she knew specialist she said from tests that she had done..when I mentioned scarring she said there are many types of cirrhosis..as far as I'm aware there are only two.comoensated and decompensated. There are four stages of liver disease fatty liver fibrosis etc. At no stage did she say I have scarring quite tge opposite however she did say you can't always see it.

That coupled with the fact that my doctor said whilst it looked as though it might be

There has been no evidence as in scarring shrunken liver coarse texture of liver so I was stage 1. That's my confusion and frustration.

Even though I can't really afford the scan my husband agrees that I need to know one way or the other .

Thank you

Sometimes it's all a bit vague, as they all say something different. My Vibro scan was 39.2 but I have no ascites. Regular six-monthly ultra-scans. I have lost weight changed diet but haven't started my beta blockers yet. Since 2019 this all kicked-off.
