Hi everyone. Little update from yesterday . So it was actually a hepatology cancer doctor we saw, he said he wants more blood tests and a CT scan with tumour markers for dad so we've to wait for the letter. He wants to rule out cancer with how fast dad went from compensated to decompensated. He has fluid in his Lungs that showed up on his xray as he has pneumonia as well at the time. They've upped his water tablets to try help with edema. I show him all your comments and well wishes. You guys make him emotional. Thank you for all your support and encouragement. You are all wonderful. Xxxxx ❤️
Dad's appointment : Hi everyone. Little... - British Liver Trust
Dad's appointment
hello love. I wondered how yourself and dad had gone on. Your dad must feel really poorly, especially if he has phnomonia as well...alot to handle. Im sure he is so grateful that you go with him....such a help. You saw the right doctor love. Its good that they want more bloods, and a ct....so they can hopefully rule that out. This should happen fairly quickly, im assuming. The gastro consultant of mine, won't increase the water tablets, for me,as she said they are very hard going on the kidneys. Any more info on the diet side of things? Have they put your dad intouch with a dietician? I wish your dad all the best. Take care love. Chris
Hello Beth,
I think we all get a little freaked out when we hear the dreaded “C” word, and we tend to always think the worst. Try not to go there. You haven’t said how old your father is. May I ask please?
Hopefully, I can give you a word of encouragement. Back in 2016, (at the age of 64) I developed five liver tumours. Three of these tumours were later burnt off At the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham using Liver Ablation treatment. More information about this can be found here: birminghamhpbclinic.co.uk/l...
At the same time, as the ablation is carried out, a sample of the tumour will be taken for analysis. I was fortunate that my tumours were benign. The other two tumours were left to grow larger.
These tumours must be identified earlier enough to use this ablation technic. They have to be less than 4cm.
The only real problem with these little devils is that once they start to grow, then a liver transplant is the best long-term outcome.
Remain positive and try not to worry, Dad’s in good hands.
Good Luck to you both.
Richard
I think you will find that all hepatolagists also specialise in liver cancer so yours is not an indication of something sinister.
ALL the 6 month check ups are mainly to see if cirrhosis patients have any indication of liver cancer and the main tests scans etc are all aimed at detecting it.
Don't worry too much though, the surveillance is only because risk is increased but still in our favor and early detection gives good results.
hello Beth - good to hear your dad is getting tests done and keep on asking questions I hope you’re looking after yourself as well as caring for your dad . I know it’s hard but try to keep positive . Best wishes to both of you Carol xxx
