normal lft but still worried

For the 6 years prior to Thanksgiving of 2021,I was very heavy , daily drinker. I ended up in the emergency room with a bad panic attack. I had stopped drinking several days prior. They did a full work up on me including LFT. My platelets were low normal (137 their lab said for a male my age 135 was the cutoff), my alt was 109, ast was 31 , a1c of 5.7nd other than really high blood pressure, they said I was good. Followed up with my GP his advice was to take the blood pressure meds, eat a keto diet and exercise. Recheck in 6 months. Went back and took me off blood pressure meds, alt 31,ast 17,platelets 175, a1c 5.2. I dropped 30 pounds as well. I workout 6days a week. Light cadrio and weights when it's hot outside and when it's nice , long runs ( started out at 3 miles. Have gone as far as 7 miles. Mostly 4-6).

A few weeks ago I got sick, don't know if it was covid. Doc treated as if it was. My appetite was nothing. Took, prednisone, ivermecton and azythromicin. Got over it in a week. Went back to the gym, stronger than before. But my appetite hasn't returned. I feel bloated but my weight has stayed the same +/-2 or 3 pounds. My waist measurement has actually decreased but after eating I feel pretty bloated. My stool is normal and brown. My urine is light yellow.

As hard as I drank,I'm constantly in fear that I wrecked myself. If I had even compensated cirrhosis, would I be able to run 5miles? If I had even mild ascites, would I be able to wake up at 4am every morning, work 8-9 hours as a welder and then workout for 1.5 hours after work?

Am I just paranoid? The bloating seems to go down after a workout.

Yes,I take a prebiotic which seems to make my gut worse.

An addendum to my post, I have been completely sober for almost 9 months. Very low carb, drinking a gallon of water a day.

Have you had any actual scans completed of your liver? A simple ultrasound will give you a clue as to whether it’s fatty liver or something else. If it’s fatty liver then go for a fibroscan to see if it’s fibrosis. I get a scan once a year because I too drank a lot in my 20s I’m 36 now and still have a VERY occasional drink but I’m mostly abstinence from alcohol. I have up and down liver enzymes watched two uncles pass from cirrhosis so I worry quite a bit. Oddly enough my cousins, sister, aunt and mother, and even my dad (so both sides of my family) have fluctuating liver enzymes that range from normal to elevated and my mother and father NEVER drink.

The greatest gift that we flawed people have is the ability to worry. Someone once said that if you worry enough about contracting certain illnesses then you treble your chances of actually getting it. Its not true, but what worry does do is impact your peace of mind and can even interrupt plans or goals we should be making. From my late twenties I worried about cirrhosis. I gad good reason to. I was drinking a litre of vodka a day. I had seen my father and his close associates die of liver disease. But, it still took 22 years to eventually get my liver to decompensated. Our liver is phenomenal. No matter though, how much we are told that, we worry anyway. Its what we do😁. Your lifestyle is phenomenally good. It would take exceptionally bad genes for you to have damaged your liver in such a short space of time. Your bloods clearly show a healthy functioning liver. If you still cannot stop worrying though, then take the advice. Get an ultrasound. Its even worth doing on credit if it affords you peace of mind in the coming years. My liver is compensated again. It took a few years of living how you are now though and the near death experience plus the robbery of many functions of a ‘normal' life make it something you do not want to go near. You are doing so well maintaining a healthy body, don’t let an unhealthy mind spoil it for you. If you want to chat about diet, exercise or other liver issues feel free to pm me. Take care.

Keep doing what you are doing and try not to worry. It seems that "covid" or whatever it is can affect our bodies in a multitude of ways and the medical community doesn't know everything about it, especially for those of us with special issues. I have alcohol related cirrhosis and almost died in February due to it, but am taking the medication prescribed, not drinking, eating super healthy and exercising, too. However, digestive issues are a challenge for me, too, and I've had 7 negative covid tests but side effects like yours that have led to extra appointments, checkups, and tests and the overarching reply from the medical community is that as long as my MELD score is still good - 7 out of 40, was 37 when diagnosed! (for those in UK who don't know, that's what the US med community measures for liver health), and don't worry about the rest. If you aren't diagnosed yet, just act like your liver is compromised, treat it like royalty, and keep up the good work!
