During an appointment at my GP surgery last Friday, by chance, the locum GP said he would look at the last bloods I had taken - he asked if I drank a lot of alcohol (I drink within safe units but more at xmas and occasions) as my Gamma GT was high at the time which was January! This had not been flagged up before and I'm wondering if I should have been told.
I had bloods taken at a private hospital as a pre-op routine before an operation a month ago and they did not tell me the results either.
I have absteined from alcohol for 3 weeks now and the GP took my bloods there and then and said he would let me know the results.
I have been dwelling on this and hubby is getting annoyed saying they would have had to tell me if they thought it was serious, but I think they just forgot to tell me/missed it.
Thanks, just needed to offload without hubby hearing me🤣

Hi 👋 You have a legal right to ask for your blood results, or any scan reports.
If you find out your GGT Levels you then either freak yourself out, never drink again. Or if you can drink MODERATELY - i. e IN CONTROL OF 'IT'. *I am not encouraging you at all, it's your life, your body*.
Personally if you've done 3 weeks of not drinking, then carry on being abstinent, you will feel a HUGE difference in your body!
*** If I knew what I know NOW and if I knew what CAN happen, (which is what it did to me) I would rewind 'X' amount of years and give my right arm, not to go through what happened to me, ever again. I was a lucky one, I nearly died. I could not have a TP.
It gets complicated as lots more to it, as Cirrhosis is a silent killer.
If you need to be scared into thinking to stop, just say or read others posts, if you understand, or know about alcohol related liver damage, already - then it's your call.
This is not an aggressive reply, please don't feel I am being harsh. It's fact, it sucks (thats being polite), it has so many other side effects, PLEASE 🙏 LOOK AFTER YOUR LIVER, IT IS AN AMAZING ORGAN you do not want an argument with it.. ever! It takes a lot of stick, but when it turns on you because of any toxic abuse, there's no place to hide. It will get you. Think of the film "TAKEN" the famous Liam Neeson quote....it's a bit like that.
It's your life. You make your own descions, you make your own choices. Be strong!
You sound a lovely person, obviously a tad concerned. You have an option. I didn't, a lot of people on here will agree with me.
I hope this helps. Don't panic, DON'T DR GOOGLE anything, read other people's posts. Hopefully that will send you in the right direction.
I hope your operation that started your concern, was successful and you are fully recovered, or on the way to recovery.
