I haven't posted in a while but am confused...it doesnt take much.
I had a follow up call with my Liver consultant yesterday - I have ARLD (Cirrohosis and Portal Hypertension). My bloods are good and US scan report states Mild Fatty Liver and a complex liver Cyst.
I asked if I should be having Endoscopy checks and she said no ? I thought I have to be checked, my last one in Dec 2021 showed no Varicies. My appointments with the Gastro Dr were all canceled by the hospital when I complained I had nothing with the liver specialist as thought I should be seen by both?.
Advice please?
In hospitial I was told to do low salt, I have asked both the consultant and GP about a dietitian and they have both said I dont need one. I have put on about 2 stone since last Dec and have been doing Slimming World without much luck. I have previously done the Cambridge Diet but my old consultant wont re enroll me until I have had a letter from my consultant. When I ask she said to do Fast 800 (so fasting 16 hours a day and 800 calories which is more restrictive than the Cambridge (Step 3) or around 1000 -1200 a day no fasting. I am wanting to loose weight as I am suferring badly with an achy body all the time / numb - painful feet (no nerve damage thats been checked). I know from reading on here diet is key so any good pointers gratefully received in trying to help loose weight safely.
Thanks much Love
Sx

All "healthy eating" plans such as weight watchers and slimming world do work but you HAVE to stick with it. You have to make a conscious effort to change the way you view food and your eating habits for life. Faddy diets and fasting don't work because it is unsustainable and reduces your metabolism, meaning the rate at which you burn calories becomes slow and sluggish so you have to exercise harder to get the weight off again when you go back to " the normal for you" eating pattern. There are no quick fixes, no miracle cures, it's all down to you and your willpower to put the work in to reverse your fatty liver.
Hi, you need to concentrate on your liver health, so a now salt ( no processed foods, you need to cook everything yourself, high protein and well balanced with fruit and vegetables, walk as much as you can) you don’t need any fad diet and starving definitely will not help your liver! Why would you want endoscopy when there’s no medical reason ( they are not fun! Also the liver doctors are gastroenterologists, so you are not being punished! You need to decide what is most important! The liver trust and Kings hospital London have good advice on their websites. Good luck
