Sorry, another question. For those in the UK how are you getting hold of detailed print outs of blood results. I have asked this of his consultant at hospital and they said they would send them but didn't they then said we needed to go via GP but the GP can only see one original test that was done there and not any done at hospital. Am very keen to get these so we can see how things are tracking for ourselves

How to access printouts of blood results
We've never had a print out of any bloods from hospital & only ever 1 set of Gp ones (in 10 years). Has your hospital / GP surgery got Patient Access? That's sometimes one way folks can access bloods.

my understanding is that you don't get them as standard but have to ask for them. The trouble is that unless we probe they only tell us 'everything is slowly moving in the right direction' but it helps us know the detail. The GP patient access won't help at the moment as they don't have visibility of the tests run at hospital
How did you get patient access? Can it be denied? Several people have mentioned this and I would love to be able to the values in my last blood test without waiting a fortnight to see my doctor ! thank you in advance x
I think it depends on whether your GP surgery or hospital has got patient access - our GP surgery has but only for ordering meds it doesn't include test results (but my brother has access to his via his GP surgery). Neither of hubbies hospitals has patient access for results (or if they do we've never been informed about it). We currently don't have any patient access for results and have only the once received a print out of hubbies blood results (in 10 years).
Ask your GP surgery and your hospital whether they have this facility for you to access results online.

Our hospitals bloods are loaded onto a system called ICE (when they told me that GP bloods taken needed to be put onto ICE if we want the hospital consultant to see them I literally thought they 'put them on ice). The practice secretary can access them along with the GP but no one else. They now helpfully print them for me when I ask for specific dates but it isn't a quick process - eg you have your bloods taken, you would quite like to see the results the next day. Nothing moves quickly at our GP
Hi I personally use system online you have to ask your GP reception for log in details or you can download airmid from playstore which seems to keep both hospital and GP tests in same app hope this helps
Go to the hospital department, take a tent, camp there and go on a hunger strike and they might consider it.
I think you might find that this can often be a case of bureaucratic mumbo jumbo. Where I live, here in the West Midlands, My GP practice comes under a different Healthcare trust to that of the local hospital. So...
If I have a blood test done locally this comes under to same healthcare trust as that of my GP's surgery (West Midlands NHS Trust) now, I can access these results via the online "Patient Access". The tests are processed, and belong to the healthcare trust that draw the blood. So the results are the property of that trust.
Now, If I was to go and have a blood test done at my local hospital, then that becomes the property of the University Hospital Trust, which is a different healthcare trust to that of my GP's. People often see our beloved NHS as being a single organisation, where in fact it is made up of 220 independant healthcare trusts.
Now, all these trusts can share data with eack other, but there can be copyright rules. If an x-ray or a CT image for example was taken, then that becomes the property of the healthcare trust that created the image. They then own the copyright. Now, they can share that data with another hospital, but the original image remains the property of the thrust.
Going back to the hospital blood test, my GP can access the results of the blood test on the hospital trusts computer system, but patient access is denied.
This all gets rather complicated. I had my liver transplant carried out in 2016 at the QE Birmingham. Because I am a pacient of there's I have access to my medical records and can see my blood tests results. But because my GP is in a different healthcare trust, he doesn't have access to these records, and nor does my local hospital because they are all different healthcare trusts.
Hope this helps clarify a complex system.
Exactly the same situation, although I have discovered that my gp surgery can, on fact, get access to hospital tests but they don't bothered as it is a separate system they have to sign into.
thanks have spoken again to the GP and hopefully we might get somewhere tomorrow!
Download the nhs app and all the gp results will show for the last 6 months
I had to submit a letter requesting test results and copy of hospital scan reports but had to phone to remind them.
I can see GP results on NHS app but not hospital ones. I get copies of letters from hospital that they send to my GP, the haematology ones have results (my liver issues caused by blood clotting disorder). My GP can see hospital results but under a different login. You generally have to ask to get.
Any blood tests done at GP I get results on system online, Addenbrookes use MyChart which has all results, appointments on and a message ststem.Hilary
We are in the same situation - GP in one trust and difficult hospital consultant in another trust - and have battled to get copies of the blood tests organised by the consultant. He refused to let us have them initially but a few months later we got in touch again with his secretary and this wonderful lady sent copies to our GP. I think we caught the consultant on a bad day!!! But it really shouldn’t be a battle to get your own test results. It’s good to be your own advocate and take an active interest in your health when you have a chronic ongoing condition like liver disease.
