I am considering having liposuction to remove some difficult to shift fat around my waist and my neck.

Does anyone know if the removal of fat from the waist could have a beneficial on liver health?

regards,

Iro1

Hi Iro1, I've got no idea about the beneficial effects of liposuction, but I highly doubt sucking fat out of your neck or waist is going to help your liver, if I could get all my fat sucked out the same way to help my liver I'd look like a Hb Pencil. Think you need to speak to your gp or dr. Take care

Thank you Ash for your reply, so I think it is a purely cosmetic choice I am making.

Liposuction attempts to suck out subcutaneous fat. People with fatty liver disease have visceral fat in and around their livers. Removing some subcutaneous fat is unlikely to improve insulin resistance or see a reduction in a person's fatty liver.

On a positive note, when we follow a healthy weight loss plan, the fat we generally burn off first first is the visceral fat that surrounds and infiltrates organs like the liver.

Thank you for your reply, removal of the stubborn fat will make feel better so perhaps it could help in that way.

So long as your primary healthcare provider/liver specialist is happy with the procedure being right for you medically.

You are quite right that an improvement in self-esteem is absolutely invaluable when changing habits and staying strong.

Best Chris

Why not? If it makes you feel better about yourself go for it. I wish I could afford it!

I am NOT a doctor, but I am guessing this would remove fat that would make it easier for you to move around. Which, in turn, would make exercise easier. Which, in turn would help you feel, look, and most importantly be better and healthier. So maybe that would be a reason to do it?

So this NON doctor wonders if getting rid of this stuff won't make getting rid of the other stuff easier?

That having been said, I don't think liposuction makes people look all that much better. It might over time. I look at these pictures and say to myself, where is the difference?

Google "liposuction pictures" yourself for more -

Difference....really?.... (and these are the success stories!)

I personally wouldn't subject myself to any surgery which wasn' t necessary, the anaesthesia, painkillers etc that you will need won't help your liver in any way. You put yourself at risk of infection, bleeding and blood clots by having the surgery.

I don't have a great body - varicose veins, saggy skin from losing weight but to me keeping myself and my liver healthy in any way I can is more important.

I'd get a hepatologist's view on this as an expert on what impact this will have on your liver condition, not those of a surgeon that stands to profit from your body insecurities.
