Brother finally lost the battle

My brother finally lost the battle to his addiction and this terrible disease in the early hours this morning. I take comfort in knowing he is no longer hurting. I knew it was coming but this is devastating.

I am so sorry to hear this. I lost my sister just before Christmas to this terrible addiction. I still feel lost. Even if you know and can see the inevitable it still sometimes feels unexpected. Feel free to reach out if you need.

So sorry to hear your news.

It doesn't help that you were expecting it, I tried to distance myself from my brother as I was expecting it, but the news still hit me like a sledgehammer when it came, and then I beat myself up over not making the most of my time with him.

My thoughts are with you.

I agree with you on that. I was with my mum every single day. You think you’re mentally prepared for it but you’re not. And no one should have to see their loved ones suffer that way. You go through all the emotions of guilt. Xxx

I've just read your comment, christmas day, that's brutal. ☹

Jacky I was the same with my sister. I did all I could and stepped away. I still saw her as she lived with my mother but I no longer actively rang her or made contact. I do regret this a little but know in my heart I just couldn’t keep getting dragged into the drama. I have my own family and sanity to protect. Please never feel bad. If alcohol was the cause you lost them already way before the end. I believe they will know we loved them.

It was heroin, and my brother lived with my parents too so I still sort of saw him but he tended to stay in his room a lot - he was way past the point of heroin making him feel euphoric, it was a battle just to stop feeling like death.

You must have a such a heavy heart just as I did when I lost my dear brother through drink. Cirrhosis be it through drink or disease is not pleasant when watching a loved on go down hill.

Take comfort from knowing he is at peace now.
