19 months alcohol free....

I’ve just had my results back from my 6 monthly bloods/scan and 1 yearly endoscopy. I’m pleased after all my hard work psychologically and physically I have no ascites,HE,or varcies. My blood work is normal. My platelets are up too 135k. My liver is smooth in outline, kidneys are normal, spleen is normal and portal vein is patent with normal direction flow. Child Pugh A,MELD 8,well compensated. Oh pancreas is slightly course, but sugars are normal and pancreatitis has been ruled out. I’ve been given a second chance, and I shall be continuing on my journey of self discovery and education to become an Addiction/Trauma Therapist to help others people find the gift of discovery. I share this to hopefully give others hope,I know I have been lucky, but never give up. The human body and mind is capable of amazing things. 😊

Well done Dean. You must be very proud of yourself and deserve to be. A great inspiration to others who may still be struggling. Laura.

This is so hopeful and inspiring to hear, really helps to know that it’s not all doom and gloom and that with hard work and dedication life can get better.

You should be so proud of yourself.

Well done Dean! You are smashing it. My bloods and scans have been held up again so I am waiting but I’m 25 months sober and I feel in the best shape. I’m hoping my scans showed I’ve smashed it like you are xx

That is amazing news! Well done for all your hard work, both physically and mentally! May I ask, does this mean (smooth contour, normal bloods) that there is no cirrhosis? I’m only asking as I have had similar results from my most recent scans (8 months sober) and my consultant (new one) has said he’s unsure why I was given a “possible cirrhosis” diagnosis. He presumed that because of binging, enlargement at the time that has screwed the results somewhat. Sending me for another fibroscan to confirm but smooth contour, normal bloods, no varies, no enlargement, no portal thingys etc…

I’ve not had a FibroScan yet,my consultant said maybe in the future. I had ascites,so my working diagnosis is cirrhosis. Low platelets is also indicative of cirrhosis. Heterogeneous course echo pattern too.

Fantastic buddy, well chuffed. We make it sound easy, we both know how hard it really is. I really hope that just helping one person understand before the disease goes too far will prove that you have made a fantastic choice in life.I have been asked by the alcohol liaison team I wouldn't mind talking with others.

Something I would like to do after talking with a guy in hospital (I think I just scared him to be honest) he couldn't believe I had end of life liver disease. It was harder to get him to eat healthy then give up the booze in the end.

It takes a special kind of person with patience to give something back, I really hope you succeed.

Good luck

Danny x

Well done you. I’m sure your story will inspire others who are struggling with addiction to think I can do this too.

Brilliant, Brilliant and a bit more Brilliant! 👏 How good are are you!! 😃

Posts like yours are a delight to read. It IS amazing what the body can do, with a bit of help (Consultants, Gp's, scans, prescribed meds, positive mental attitude) 🤪

🎶🎷💃🤸🏻‍♀️🧘🏻‍♀️💃🎶🎷

I'm not far off 3-4 years (I've just edited that last part, as I never know to count the year I stopped) of being abstinent or Alco free. I never ever thought I would be saying this or typing it and by heck..it's a good feeling. I still have some 'diddy' issues, hopefully to be smoothed out. Possible HCC being one, Grotty Gallstones (hopefully no Vile Varices - fingers crossed the sheep castration technique worked) which all can be addressed after next MRI this month...(watch this space). 🤞

You should be SO proud of yourself and to follow it on with becoming an Addiction / Trauma therapist is just a beautiful ending of this part of your life. I remember reading your post about the course you were doing. Wrote it down and being me can't find it now in my "notes of important paper"😟 I rember it had a blue heading on it though! 🙂 if you have a minute and it's not imposing, would you pass on the details of the course as I also would really like to be able to help people. It was suggested in the future, I could go to schools and inform them and be an example of alcohol addiction or similar. So if the only thing I can do from all my Liver Journey is talk, show and set an example, then that's one good thing that has come from it all. I hope that makes sense.

Anyway, this is your time and your post I best hush. Too much talking about oneself is a bit of a selfish and self centred thing to do, a bit like when someone cuts you off mid sentance, or finishes your sentences. Sorry.

Huge congratulations 🎊 once again well done and keep ticking the boxes. Woo hoo 😃 Good luck with your learning and I'm sure you will be a brilliant therapist.

Take good care Dean!😊

Such brilliant news. I'm sure all your New Year resolutions have come at once. Positivity is obviously one of your strong points along with many others no doubt. Strength is what we all need in these uncertains times and for you to have achieved this during this period is absolutely admirable. So proud you must be and deservedly so. The body is remarkable along with yourself. Go to the top of the class. xx

Thanks for sharing this positive update, you have done SO well, be proud.

That is awesome Dean! We are Meld twins! That's what mine is. I had no idea your varices could go away. I have a few as well as portal hypertension. I wonder if portal hypertension can go away? Congratulations on all of your hard work and the results!
