Hi, I have been taking 20mg fluoxetine for 3 weeks or more but symptoms are still not better . I’m going to ask doctor if I can go up to 40mg. Can anyone tell me if they are taking that dose with Nash and it’s ok . Thank you . Panic Pat.
Fluoxetine : Hi, I have been taking 20mg... - British Liver Trust
Fluoxetine
I would hold off going to your GP just yet, It does say that it can take between 4 - 6 weeks before they kick in.
However, If I was in your shoes I would be looking at the possible causes for your depression. For some people it can be a hormonal imbalance, or possibly being in constant pain like that of rheumatoid arthritis. Also a traumatic episode in a persons life may be a cause of depression. Treating the cause and not just the effect would be a better way I believe.
Any drug that is taken orally, or rubbed into the skin, will are some point end up being processed by the liver. Some chemicals can be more toxic than others. I would try and keep all medicines to a minimum and try not to take a cocktail of drugs all at the same time. These maybe quite harmless in their own, but when mixed with other drugs could become quite toxic for the liver to process.
I hope you begin to feel better soon.
Richard
Hi Pat
Richard has already given the perfect reply, especially if it is related to depression.
The only thing I would add is, even if someone else was taking a higher dosage, their livers ability to cope with that dosage may be completely different to yours which is why it is always best to talk these things through with our doctors.
I hope you feel better soon
Dave
Hi Coligate123, although it can take a few weeks for Fluoxetine to start working, it is important if you feel your mood worsening, to mention this to your GP. Are you receiving any other support for your mental health? I hope that you start to feel an improvement soon,Trust10.
