Good evening everyone

I write about my husband. We are still waiting to see a Consultant Hepatologist in Oct however things are just going from bad to worse.

My husband probably has ARLD he has had 2 ultrasounds and they deem the liver to be fatty but no mention of cirrhosis, kidneys etc all normal. His LFTS are all over the place, Ferritin at 2650 supposed to be under 1000, we have been to emergency, GP Etc…. I am getting nowhere!!!

He is not eating, vomiting 6 times a day, anti meds x 4 different sorts aren’t working, fatigued beyond belief but still we getting nowhere when we speak to the Doctors, what do I do???? I am scared to death that my husband is going to die.

He is or was a big drinker, the recovery team he is dealing with advised against him stopping the alcohol completely due to seizures etc but the the advice is to stop drinking WTF must he do!

I’m scared, worried and just so confused!

Any advice would be so greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Kay

Hi, what a terrible situation.

If your husband is vomiting 6 times a day and not eating and still drinking alcohol as he needs a controlled and safe withdrawal, on top of already deranged LFT’s, I would take him to A&E or at least call 111 for advice now. I am assuming he’s at home?

Do you think the vomiting is from withdrawing or his general condition? Either way he needs to be in a hospital for proper management.

Let us know how you are both getting on x

Hi there

Thank you

We have been to emergency about 4 times, I explain the situation and all they do is take bloods, and then send him home!! 111 has been called numerous times also and all they do is send an ambulance round, the paramedics do their obs again I explain to them what is happening and they just don’t listen, I don’t know what to do!!!!

I don’t know why the vomiting is persisting to be honest as I can’t get any answers from no one! I am going to ring the Dr surgery again this morning and see if I can’t get him admitted so they can at least manage him there OR do some tests to find out what is going on!

Thanks for your reply

It seems crazy that they won’t take him into hospital! I would almost insist that he’s admitted, no wonder you are worried.

Try and call the nurse led helpline on here for some more support.

Thanks. I am going to speak to the Dr today and insist he is admitted I can’t continue like this and neither can my husband. I will keep you updated. It’s like I’m fighting for help where as it should be common sense for them to think about it, see how downhill he is going and try do something about it!!! I’m so fed up and so worried I don’t know where to go or think anymore! I’ll try the Gp again this morning and insist he gets seen at hospital!

Good for you, thank god he’s got someone fighting his corner! Good luck x

Thank you. We at the Acute medical unit now. Taken bloods and my husband has been vomiting coffee ground like vomit all day, I’m maybe thinking this is not his liver but a gastro issue. His liver scan showed fatty liver and not cirrhosis not sure if an ultrasound shows cirrhosis??

I assume the next step will be an endoscopy to have a look into his oesophagus, coffee granule type vomitting of blood is commonly associated with burst varices.

Thank god he’s being looked at now. Your persistence has made a huge difference I am sure. Well done and I’m wishing your husband a speedy recovery and you a little rest!

Thank you. CT shows inflammation of the liver, no bleeding. Consultant deemed he may have liver disease but not sure what and extent. We have to wait for the liver specialist appointment on Oct 7th and the endoscopy but they said the coffee granule vomit is from an empty stomach and alcohol and anti sickness meds aggravating the stomach lining. They said he can go home and if anything changes ie red blood in vomit etc go straight to A&E
