Question about general anesthesia

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with general anesthesia with well compensated cirrhosis. It will be a 3-4 hour procedure to insert a heart device through a catheter by route of going through the vein in my groin. So no real cutting. Just small enough to insert the catheter with the device into my heart. My tricuspid valve is regurgitating and this has caused my cirrhosis. This device would potentially stop any further deterioration of my liver.

I am sure the anaesthetist involved in your procedure will really look after you.

My hubby (with cirrhosis) had a general anaesthetic earlier this year when he had an ERCP procedure plus a team doing his annual endoscopy tag teamed on afterwards and did that whilst he was still under.

He had absolutely no ill effects.

Best wishes,

Katie

Thanks, Katie! The thought of possibly getting something that will help my heart failure and halt the cirrhosis is something that would be fantastic! This is a clinical trial so don’t know yet if I will be selected but praying I do! Linda

I had a general anaesthetic 17 months into the 19 months I spent on the transplant list, as a priority listing, due to my type B blood. The process went through my neck to place a monitor in my heart, because there was a concern about the ability to get through the transplant surgery. So my end stage decompensated cirrhosis was causing problems that needed further investigation. The procedure lasted just over an hour and I woke up in the recovery room, before being taken back to the ward. I was well enough to be discharged on the same day and I was able to go home. Two months later, got my second call and was successfully transplanted. I continued to have follow up appointments with cardiology before they discharged me from the clinic 6 months later, having satisfied themselves that everything was good.

Good luck with your procedure and I hope that it achieves the desired outcome.

Mark
