Asking for some advice as it is always the bleddy weekend when things may be going wrong! I have cirrhosis with varices and some minor ascites. I had a major oesophageal bleed last month, bluntly vomming loads of blood and was blue lighted and treated very well with some emergency banding, I think two varices. It didn't hurt at all and I had no warning beforehand, felt fine. Starting last night I have discomfort in my oesophagus and some difficulty swallowing, still feel fine but something isn't right. Is this an emergency needing urgent treatment or can it wait until Monday when I can chase for an endoscopy?
Oesophageal pain: Asking for some advice... - British Liver Trust
Oesophageal pain
Have you been put on a Proton Pump Inhibitor medication (like Omeprazole, Lansoprazole) to protect your oesophagus from acid reflux? Have you noticed any change in your stool colour that might indicate a potential oozing bleed i.e. stools going darker/black/tarry/sticky.
My hubby was bleeding for weeks and it showed up in stools (which he ignored) until he like you had a massive hematemesis (vomming blood) and he was found he had 7 burst varices on endoscopy. If you have blood in your stool together with the oesophageal symptoms I wouldn't mess about and would get to A&E.
Might be worth a phonecall to NHS 111 or your local out of hours service to run it past them in light of your previous bleed.
