So I like to eat healthy for obvious reasons. This morning I had a shop bought berry platter, lunch box size for one. Now,it contains 24 grams of sugar? Iβd normally have a banana and strawberries and some 0% Greek yogurt for after dinner for something sweet instead of pudding? But Iβm thinking the fruit has more sugar? So confusing?

Hi Dean,
That's a good question. Wanted to find out more for myself so I Googled it (cheater π) think it's really just the added sugar you need to watch, not so much the natural sugar. NHS have some good advice - nhs.uk/live-well/eat-well/h...
Hope that helps a wee bit,
Kx
Hi Dean. The sugar in fruit is fructose which is harmless. Its refined sugar which you would put in tea and coffee which is the harmful stuff. So carry on enjoying your fruit ππππππ₯ππ
But...sugar turns to fat and gets stored in the liver if not burnt the ff???
Yes of course calories are calories to SOME extent and all types of sugar have similar energy quotient. But fructose doesn't spike blood sugar anywhere near as much as other sugars.

Also unprocessed fruit sugars (in actual fruits) are bonded with fibre and all the other things fruits have in them, so the glycemic load is lower too. In other words, excess fruit consumption will of course not help with weight loss if you're getting loads of extra calories but...most fruit won't produce the unhealthy impact on one's pancreas and liver in terms of our bodies inflammatory response and a person's insulin resistance. Some fruits are better than others in terms of glycemic index.

Thank you!! Yes,again everything in moderation!!?(apart from you know what...π€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈ)
Thanks for the in depth detail x
Only the sugar you buy off the shelves and use in drinks and and baking etc. Doctors and health experts say to eat at least 5 portions of fruit and veg per day. They don't say eat 5 cakes and 5 bars of chocolate a day do they? And that's because fruit contains the "healthy natural sweetener." Perfectly safe
Iβm determined to find a doctor that says 5 chocolate bars and 5 cakes a day!!!!
π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£ good luck with that 1
However, for anyone either pre-diabetic or Type2, certain fruits are limited or even not allowed, due to the levels of sugar and/or carbs they contain. Not all fruits are created equal, unfortunately.
That is very true. But presumably a doctor would give strict dietry advice to a T2 diabetic ?
What about if the chocolate has fruit in it ? π
Oh I love Dairy Milk Fruit and Nut and Whole nut and Hazlenut...OMG...yes!!!!! Bring on the fruit!!!!
I'm drooling .... stop it !! π
Pick out the fruit π

A fruit trifle would be good.
Hi Dean, there is conflicting information out there on this topic of how much fruit is ok. So you're ultimately going to have to decide for yourself.
From the sources I found early on in my NAFLD journey, fructose is indeed a type of sugar and therefore should be regulated and limited. It is true there are other nutrients that help limit the glycemic spike compared to just eating a spoonful of table sugar. But at the end of the day, its a form of sugar and needs to be treated as such.
That being said, when you look at the sugar in fruit, you will quickly see that not all of them are created equal. Raspberries, strawberries and blackberries are lower in sugar and higher in fiber compared to grapes, apples, bananas...etc. So you may find a balance of how much certain fruits you want to eat. There is also sufficient research/articles that fructose is metabolized almost completely by only the liver.
So for me, that was enough to say that I won't eat more than a cup of berries a day because I do enjoy them quite a bit. But I highly recommend you do your own research or meet with a dietician to review your diet. You can then work out a plan for how much sugar you should have in a day and decide if you can accommodate the amount of fruit you would like
Thank you. Yes Iβve also read about fructose and the liver. Mind you my consultant has okβed me to take supplements, never mentioned Sugar or salt.
Good plan !
Afternoon deanw41, bless you, fruit is fine , I eat anything that ends in berries lol oh and grapes. It's a pain isn't it when it comes to food. It's my birthday tomorrow and my Dad has booked a really nice restaurant, I had to call them about salt content in a dish I quite fancy , they put me through to the chef, he was so nice , asked me to ask for the head chef when I arrive π Thing is there are 15 desserts on the menu lol x
Oh Happy Birthday for tomorrow!! My consultant never said anything about salt to me or food really, but I eat quite healthy. But tonight is treat night so itβs tacoβs and nachos and cheese followed by butterscotch Angel Delight. ππ
Thankyou π That sounds delicious. I had a nutritionist at the hospital and she gave me guidance of what and not to eat. A very low salt/sodium high protein diet along with veg and fruit. I don't eat meat just salmon, tuna and prawns. So pretty healthy just need to keep my weight on hence the high protein. But I have developed a rather sweet tooth especially ice-cream ... enjoy your treat tonight πX
How was the butterscotch angel delight? Not had that for donkies years but l remember it was rather delicious. Surprised you can still get it !
Oh it was amazing!! We had Banana too!! I make it with Jersey cream top milk, simply delicious!! I also had Dairy Milk Fruit and Nut and Hazelnut and some Cadburyβs Trifle!! Friday night is treat night!! I did go to Boot Camp this morning tho too!!!!
