Hi, thanks for letting me join your group, I have a query, I was diagnosed with Hepatitis C back in December last year, but we've found I contracted it back in 1979 when I was given contaminated blood after a transfusion. I have received stage 1 payments but think it should be back dated to April 2016 when payments were started, after all I have had Hep C really since 1979. I was really ill back in 2009 but was not tested for it then, any help would be grateful.

Hi. I’m in a similar position to you. Diagnosed last year, had blood transfusion back in 1986. I have now received stage 2 as I have sadly developed cirrhosis. It is only backdated to the day you submit your claim. I know seems unfair but it’s the rules. What was more frustrating was the trouble I had getting it at all!!!
Sorry Ruby to hear that things are getting worse, also pleased or not pleased if you know what I mean about you getting stage 2. I am trying for stage 2 because my illness is getting worse and my husband has to finish work to look after me losing our income and if that money was backdated it would be a great help. I am doing a interview with the infected blood inquiry team on Tuesday and Wednesday next week, when I spoke to the lady who is doing the interview she said appeal against the discussion about not getting it back dated because I ve had the Hep C since 1979 and that was was very ill in 2009 but was not tested for Hep c then. Ill give it a try and will get back to you if I win. Take care
